Airbags...why are they bad?

frame work has nothing to do with it IMO. a correct bag install will ride like a dream, whether it be bag on bars or over axle or below and behind and axle. if setup properly, it will ride like a dream. maybe the common factor in the 15 setups that youve helped and rode like *** is you?

dude, your a little 19 year old punk, you have been driving for all of 4 years and have all this airbag exp? I would like to know how many 19 ot 20 year olds could actually afford a $2500-3500 airbag setup?....I was doing low rider stuff when you were in middle school....Is their an abundance of keyboard assholes on this forum?

actually im in the process of buying my mustang II suspension for up front which is prolly a grand alone. im not buying a hub to hub kit, im piecing it together myself, ford granada calipers, camero discs, custom tubular arms, mustang II crossmember, everything pieced together. built not bought. my truck was 800, the welder will be 750 most likely, not to mention the labor that goes into the swap, building a 302 keeping the 3 on the tree, ive got a full air ride setup, will be doing all the work myself, ur just upset that an EIGHTEEN year old kid is doing something you could only wish of doing when u were my age.

No...if I was a smart mouth punk like you...I think my parents would have kicked my 18 year old ***.....can't wait to see the pics!!!!

geez *****es chill out and get back on topic instead of showing how immature you guys really are...

I am 18 never really did an air bag system but from what I've seen and heard, they are a LOT better than hydros... Lower maintence, less space consumption, cheaper, etc... Everything that's already been mentioned...

I've never seen a frame damaged from a set-up but then again, only a few of my friends even have 'em..

What I have seen and noticed myself is this:

Having an air-ride system does not mean getting rid of the shocks as many people do... That's probably where they ***-ride comes into play

You think my response to his lack of respect is being immature?

Yes air bags are a ton better in ride quality than hydraulics and are allot less prone to problems...

Why would you make an assumption that these cars didn't have shocks installed? All of them did...some normal...some adjustable....some were shockwaves

Ah it is just aggrivating seeing bickering going on instead of what the topic was... I meant no disrespect to you because if I had, it would have been more apparent.

I was trying to say that you really dont need to argue with an 18 year old because you know how we are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

And I'm sorry if the 'shock' statement seemed as if it were directed towards you.. It was meant to be a general statement to basicly let everyone know because you wernt the only one who said something about the ride quality...

Ok time to speread a little knowledge. I didnt read the whole thread but what i did read seemed to be people who dont know entirely what they are talking about. lets go over some of the questions i read.

Q: can bags mess up your frame?

A: If poorly installed yes bags can have a negative effect on a lot of apsects of your vehicle. If you do the install take the time to do the reasearch and do the install right. dont mickey mouse anything.

Q: do/can bags improve my ride quality.

A: yes bags can improve your ride quality. the thing about bags though is that they ride different at different heights.

Q: Are hydroz bad?

A: absolutley not! most people who are ageanst droz are mostly not imformed. hydroz can ride just as good if not better than a bag setup. one of the mian bennefits of hydroz is that they ride the same at any ride heighth. they arnt that much harder to install than bags infact the 2 setups are quite similar. yes if huydrolics leak they can leak huydrolic fluid causing a mess. if i were to run droz on my truck i would harline most of it and run steel braded line off of the hard line when going into the bags to allow for flexing. i know plenty of people who have run droz without a leak. one other thing to make sure you do if you run droz is to get accumulators which improve the ride quality of a hydo setup greatly. also you can get more lift out of a hydro setup. hydroz come in a number of different sizes and generally can lift higher than a single bag.

Q:Bags Vs Coilovers (in terms of ride quality)

A: if you take the best ever bag setup vs the best ever coilover setup coilovers will always win. there is just no comparison. coilovers are built for preformance bags anrt built for high preformance. if your just looking to get greater ride quality and lower you vehicle a little than coilovers are for you. you can even get pillow mount coilovers with a controller so that you can adjust your ride heighth from inside your car. now if you want your car to lay out/ get low or drag than bags/drozs are for you. coilovers are a lot easier to install than bags as well. bags is are a decet size project (see me nissan 720 log for details on a bag installation)

Q: what determines that quickness of my bag setup

A: there are a lot of things that can determine the quickeness of how fast your vehicle lifts/lowers with bags. 1 is the size of your valve or airline. 1/2" will be faster than 3/8" the bigger valves/airline you have the faster your setup. you could run 1/2" with some sort of device in your dump valve that mkae is release air at a slower rate than normal. also you generally want your valves near your bags IE. youe rear valves near your rear bags and your front valves near your front bags. this will also increase the speed of your setup.

hope this helps celar up some of the misinformation going on around here

once again dude, hydros can ride just like air ITS ALL IN THE INSTALL!

rick, ur right on everything youve said, but some people dont get it.
yea i feel ya there are a tone of miss conseptions out there the ignorance is just overwhelming. you should see some of the racist coments that came out over on fullsizechevy.com when i posted asking information about droz for my silverado.

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175615 here check it out great arguments the guy on there kdubz really knows what hes talking about

check out my thread in this section, mynew project. post and let me know what u think.

Rick,

thanks for clarifying it all. I was actually going to ask somet things but you already answered most of it with that post.

I've heard that regarding performance driving, i.e. hard cornering etc etc, air bags have one problem. That is, hot street/racing suspensions are setup a certain way, alignment, toe etc etc blah blah. And that's for a certain ride height, if you raise it and then lower it, you end up messing up your alignment/setup for real hard cornering.

I'm quite curious about this myself, because I live in San Diego, trust me, some streets make you think you're in San Fransisco, and the worst streets are the ones going to the naval bases, I know which lane, where all bumps, everything is, by heart now *l* that's how bad it is. Certain entrances to parking lots at malls or shopping centers have extreme angle/incline, I drive a Camaro, stock height, and still have problems.

After all, how do you guys think I lost my air dam just over a week or so ago ? Didn't even notice it, until the temperature was going up.

The "luxury" of raising and lowering just a tiny bit, and a smoother ride, is very, very tempting.

Hah I like your comment about how many 19 year old punks could afford a nice bag setup? Well lets see. My first bag setup was on an 86 Yota when I was 14. I had about a $1500 bag setup, but the install was done right. Im 16 Now I have a 96 Sonoma with a Silver Star Customs 2 link in the rear with a cantilever setup. Rides like a champ. And to the guy that said Hydros are safer than bags, and cant mess up as much, are you serious? Lets see. If you go with a quick hydro setup, then you quickly wear out about every peice of your suspension you might want to keep. #2, when you have a leak, you know what shoots out all over your nice show car right? Yeah you guessed it, hydrualic fluid. Hydraulics are a lot worse ride than bags, especially if you arent running accumulators, which most dont. Bags can give a very nice ride if dont correct. And bags arent "bad" but I dont drive my trucks as daily drivers because the possibly line popping, fitting poppin loose, bag popping, valve sticking, airleaks, stuff that happends at the worst times. Most of theese things can easily be fixed when it happends when you carry tools and parts with you like Id suggest most people need to do when driving a bagged car. Im done with my rant now.

Depends.

Juice, on accumulators, with hardline run, is JUST as dependable, with a good clean ride.

Infact, on a unibody, I'd MUCH rather have juice. Gets lower, gets higher, never have to hear a compressor whine.

Not argueing, just offering a comment or two, I haven't read anything on this thread other than this comment.

I have a 92 Caprice classic on air, and a 94 mustang on air. Love both of them.
