get out your dmm and test the resistance on each coil....if they are dvc, then you might have burnt a gap in one of the coils and it is unwinding(the sound you hear)

and the sub is running on less power due to only one coil and the resistance change present at the amp (less power) which is why it is not as loud

if you push on the cone does it scratch?

I was crankin it, and it was playin at like 90%...again, just the lows is where it sounded weaker...which makes me think its the tinsel....but I really don't know.

sounds like you blew a hole/leak in teh box to me.

darn, that sucks... Sry I don't know the terminology properly.. Im not talking about the tinsels, Im talking about the coiled up wire that is wrapped around and around and around... I see some pics of it all mangled up when people blow a sub sometimes.

no, sry, nobody has EVER posted a picture of a coil and been like, "this is a coil"..

I get confused because you only see 1 big wound up coil... but there could anywhere from 1-4 voicecoils in that coil..... I think

UPDATE: just went out to the car and pushed down on the cone..and YES, IT MAKES A SCRATCHING SOUND. So this means it reached its mechanical limit, and the coil came un-wound right?

I g/g make a run and pick up some hardware... be back in an hour.

same thing happened to a sub i bought at a pawn shop a few weeks ago, happened the first 5 minutes i had it hooked up. it still played alright but made a scratching noise at lower notes. 20 min later it locked up and i took a sludge hammer to it and was out 100$.

easiest way to tell number or coils is to look at the tinsel pairs. one pair is a svc, two pair is a dvc and so on
