AGM Battery Question - Does Brand Matter?

if you wait and look online i think the normal price is 229.00 but every 2 to 3 weeks they go on sale for 180.00 or so.3 or 4 year free replacement with no pro rating.and there are sears everywhere so no matter where you are or what state you are traveling in you are covered.thats a great benifit.

Personally I try to buy stuff that is proven. It may cost a bit more but there is no doubt it will preform.

Well, they're giving me a 30 day cash back warranty to try it out. I thought that was pretty cool of them. I'm going to hook it up today and beat it up.

What's going to be the best way to charge it? I have an old analog charger that's 2 or 12 amps and has a switch for deep cycle or standard battery. Should I put it on 12 amps and deep cycle? Should I look into a newer smart charger? This is my first experience with an extra battery. Need to do it safely

agm batterys = mandatory smart charger with agm tecnology designed in to it.

its verry eazy to over cook an agm battery on a old school dinosuar charger.

by over feeding it - the battery will vent - yes its a sealed battery - but there are still vents in it - and when the crap inside of it boils from being over cooked / charged it will boil out and escape - but since its a sealed battery - its never replacable - like the water is inside of a normal wet cell car battery....

i totaly destroyed an optima red top by leaving it on 10 amp charge over night on a old school on off switch battery charger. woke up and the thing was fuming out the entire garage - lucky it didnt catch fire or blow up or other terrible thing happen.

i believe my actual charger is a brand schumacher - bought from walmart - has 3 settings for charge - and can switch from standard wet cell battery / agm / gell cell ( i think optima / spiral type batterys are gell cell ) but its computer inside can sence peak charge - and switch from full charge cycle to float charge cycle automaticly once peak charge has been detected - thus its pretty safe and a no brainer. should cost less than $75 at your local wally

Can anyone explain to me the difference between the XS XP series and XS Deep Cycle? The deep cycle batteries cost a bit more but what's the reason to go Deep cycle over XP series? Like I understand that deep cycle is useful for when the car is off but is there any benefits even when the car is on? Will I get more performance from a deep cycle over the supplementary? Is it meaningless if you always listen to music with the car on?

i have been dealing with batteries for 20 years.i was a outboard marine mechanic.lots of good chargers but for AGM you need a slow charge.so make sure you get something made for agms.the best option is one that does more than one type so if you need it for others you dont have to buy another charger.the charger i use now is a NOCO genius G1100.you can google it but is a very good agm charger and has alot of features for its size and is very high quality with awesome cables.i have it perm. mounted in the engine bay with a optional waterproof plug that is mounted to the underside of my bumper so all i have to do is plug it in and dont even have to open the hood.and where its mounted if you forget to unplug it and back up it will just unplug itself.hope this helps a little.bought charger off ebay.

deep cycle is made for a slow discharge for longer periods of time.and just deep cycle is not made for a high current draw such as stating a car.now days there are alot of deep cycle batteries that are made for starting as well.just look at the CCA.mine has 850 CCA which is plenty for starting and it has the reserve capacity of a deep cycle,so best of both worlds.i would much rather have the dual purpose battery than just a starting or just deep cycle.i use die hard platinum batteries marine version which are made by Odyssey.sears just puts there sticker on it.it has been much better than the optimas i used to use.you can check them out on there web site.very very good batteries.they go on sale about every 3 weeks.

marine version is the exact same as the others just adds 2 extra posts.its no different than the car audio batteries.its a starting and deep cycle.my job in boats puts batteries to the biggest test and worst conditions for batteries.so when i find one that performs well i stick with it.they have to start outboard motors, run high amp trolling motors, gps systems, radar, boat radio systems, lights, bilge pumps, ect all from one battery.

in my opinion people rely way to much on battery and dont think about alternator.i would rather buy a good quality battery for 180.00 and get a 300.00 mechman alternator than buy a 400.00 XPS battery.i have seen people buy an expensive battery up front and another for the rear along with all the wiring and battery isolator and still not get the same performance as 1 quality battery and a alternator and wiring upgrade.
