Aeroports make no sense!

Why do people say "you need two 6" aeros" but don't specify the length??? I could have a mile long 6" aero and it fits that sentence........ Also every calc I've used says all I need for a 7 cube box is a single 6" aero about 7" long which is obviously wrong. What is going on? I know I need about 16" squared per cubic foot and I want a 32hz tuning.

16 sq in is way too much for aero ports. you only need about 4-9 sq in. for 7 cubes, either 4 4" aeros or 2 6" aeros. i personally don't exceed 20" in length or less than 12".

Pair of 6" flared ports would be about 18" (17 plus about an inch extra that accounts for the flares) to get 7 cubes tuned to 32hz. It's exactly what I run actually, two 6" flares, 7 cubes net at 32hz.

And if you had only one 6" then about 7" long is correct. That's not a lot of port area though, unless you're running low end subs with not a lot of power.

im really surprised no one else(that has exp with aeros) said this but instead of doing 2 6" aeros, i would do 1 8" personally. Less ports are more efficient then then multiple. Both 2 6" aeros and 1 8" roughly equal the same amount of square inches.

Example:

2 6" Aeroports = 56.52 square inches

1 8" Aeroport = 50.24 square inches

yes the 2 6" has 6 more inches but the single 8" will make up for it and more due to its efficiency.....

So how does port area effect the bass? I've always heard more port area is a good thing. I'm running 2 15" subs with a RUB2500.

Lower port area will play more flat and have less roll off. Prefered for more sound quality

Higher port area will have more output but at a smaller bandwidth, peaky.
