Alright. My truck has been solded to my neighbor. Gunna be weird to see it in the next driveway everyday, but I'll live.

IF we decide to get another vehicle, it should be a smallish four door car. We have a 2005 Explorer with a healthy payment so that's not going anywhere and the therefore the second car doesn't need to be an SUV. I still have my chrome 20s from the truck so anything that can handle a 5by5 RWD bolt pattern is a bonus. I googled that and the only realy possibility I came up with was a Jeep Grand Cherokee??? Not a big deal, I can alway sell them.

Here's where the variety of CAers comes in handy. Go ahead and shoot me ideas and maybe examples of a good little car around $2000. I could go a little more, but wanna put some money on bills too. My wife wants a Jetta. I see 1997-2000 Jettas going in the $2Ks but haven't but much research into what motor/etc is good for that year range.

Have at it fellas, and thanks in advance.

get a xterra, the 2005 or 2006 and up are nice, good for audio, good for offroading. my friends 06 beat my car in a race and i have a 99 explorer with the biggest v6 made then, the 4.0 liter. so you get power, speed, audio and offraoding, nothing liek that combination

The 99 4.0 expo is slow as hell. Possibly the slowest SUV I've ever driven.

Now the 4.0 in the xterra makes 265hp and moves pretty quick.

Confused as to what segment we're lookin at since you said 2nd vehicle doesn't need to be an SUV and you want a smallish 4 door car then suggested a Cherokee. What will it be used for? Just a spare or something to commute in while you cart family and stuff around in the Explorer?

I'll say this, sit in a Cherokee when you get a chance. It's an awesome vehicle but the ones I've been in are pretty cramped in the rear and make me generally feel claustophbic inside. Maybe the newer ones are better, Idonno. Just something to keep in mind if you have or are planning for kids: I've sat in compacts that are more comfy inside than a Cherokee.

Volkswagens, some people like them but I'm not a big fan because of the cost of parts. I personally wouldn't want one with miles on it. To me that's on the list of cars I'd only buy brand new or with negligible miles and be done with by 150K.

For compact/midsize I like the Altima and Camry.

I know a guy who uses an Intrepid as his spare vehicle and has been very happy with it. Tight handling and good reflexes for that big of a car. Just don't buy one from the first year or two they were made. ****** issues.

You can probably pick up Crown Vics all day for a couple thousand bucks, these are sturdy vehicles that keep chugging along without much of a problem even as the miles rack up and parts are cheap cause there's millions out there.

Alright, to be most specific. I was thinking along the lines of a Jetta, Malibu, Cavalier, that kinda size. I was thinking about a Cherokee because I read that my wheels might fit them, but I'll probably just sell them.

I thought about Crown Vic/Caprice Classic, but thats bigger than I want. I don't need audio space, but since it's one in the same, cargo room would be nice. Mileage would be nice and the ability to enjoy a five hour ride back to the family in Michigan would be nice.

I guess what I'm looking for from yous guys is what cars am I overlooking from Mazda, Mitsu, whoever. Yeah the $2K price limits it, but craiglist has alot of cars in that range.

And yeah, I solded it to the buyerer.
