Advice on upgrading subs and enclosure

pgrade my budget system.

Ok, here it goes. I put together a little bit of a budget system for my 2000 ***** Am. It has a Pioneed Cd player in the front, JL Audio components up front, Kicker mid bass in the sails, and factory highs in the very back hooked up to the stock monsoon amp. I have a a Hifnonics 16001.d hooked to 2 sealed Kenwood KFC3013Ps 12 inch subs in a sealed box in the back. It hits ok but not as deep as I like. Lots of punch bass but not that low low bass like I like. What I was thinking about was upgrading to some better subs like 2 Rockford P3s, Alpine Rs or some JL Audios. For a budget of $400 max what subs would you guys go with? Plus, recommend me a way to get a nice ported box for 2 12s. The shops around here just don't want to touch it seems. I don't know how they stay in business if they don't want to build boxes for customers.

What I like in sound? I like everything from rock, pop, country to occasionally listen to some r7b or rap. Love the way bass pounds the back of my head when the bass beats hit. But not so much bass it just overpowers the rest of my system. I do intend on upgrading my amp and rear speakers but for now my attention is to better bass. Don't get me wrong , the kenwoods do pretty good for the budget I spent but I want better. SQ is important along with decent spl. I have always been a big fan of JL Audio but they are a tad pricey. Would the P3s or Alpine Rs sound just as good in a nice ported box? Will subthump make a ported box for 2 12s? I see they have sealed boxes but non advertised for ported in 4th Generation Fbodys? Any help would be appreciated guys. One other thing, I wouldn't mind running 1 ohm to get all of the power out of my amp, which states 1600 watts rms at 1 ohm.

Two Sundown SA-10s would meet your budget and hit hard & low in a small ported enclosure. They're rated at 600w RMS but will take the 800 a piece you've got with zero problem. I'm currently running an SA-15 on 1500 watts and it's happy as can be.

To be honest, I got a crap box. Picked up a box from 3 kings audio that claims 2 cu ft sealed. For starters, after moving it in and out a few times the top of the box became separated. Box is put together with staples and minimal glue. Well, I got some gorilla glue wood clue and screws to try and fix it. I was semi successful. There is still just a slight bit of air seeping out towards the front of the box. The box itself was just a temporary box anyways and only $50 shipped. One other problem is the screws to hold the subs inkeep pulling themselves out of the box. Yes, cheapy crap box is all I can say.

Here is a box for 2 ported 12s but it may be on the low side for most 2 12s. What do you guys think? They also have a box for 1 15. Could that be an option too?

Here are some other guys with a box that can be ported but it looks like no enough air space for 2 ported tens or 12s.

I have no problem with going 2 tens either. I know they can hit hard and low too.

If you're running the Hifonics 1600.1 I would grab a pair of these C2 Audio 12" Threatcon-2 (Dual 4 ohm, wired to 1 ohm on your amp) and (if you don't have access to the means of getting a custom box) Custom Slot Ported MDF Enclosure Box for 2 12" Sub Woofers 4 ft 3 Tuned 32Hz | eBay those boxes do very well for prefab boxes. Alpine Type R's are also a viable choice, but I think the C2 could outperform them.

I don't think that speaker box would fit right in my ***** Am, even if I pull it out of the cubby. Probably just fine for my wifes Trailblazer SS. Thinking about putting the Kenwoods in that in a good ported box.
