Advice on SQ setup

VeeDub in da house...
I was hoping to get some advice and input from all of you on here as to what all of you thought about what I've come up with so far for my new system...please let me know what all of you think as well as anything you'd recommend for or against doing. Thanks. The vehicle is a Pathfinder so theres a lot of free space and

HU: Eclipse CD8443

Front Comps: Diamond HEX S600s

Front Mids: Diamond M6.0mx3 (6.5" midbass)

Rear fill: Undecided

Not sure how much power to send each of these...I was planning on powering them through two separate amps, either US amps, JL, or Diamond.

Recommendations as to whether to power them separately or together with 3-way x-over???

Also how much power to send to the comps, mids, and rear fill? I was planning on sending the comps around 150, I've heard they take more.

Anyways, I would appreciate any and all advice on this setup. I have only been on the board for a couple days now but I have already learned so much. Thanks goes out to all who share their knowledge and experience.

50-100 for the comps. 75-150 for the midbasses.

Three questions:

1) Why are you using the lower grade midbass with a system that already has a 6.5" midbass of better quality?

2) Why don't you run 2 of the Hex series midbasses and actively cross everything?

3) Why do you feel that you need another midbass in the first place?

Oh yeah and screw the rear fill.

The midbass is part of the HEX series i thought. At least thats what I got from the website. The midbass was listed under the HEX series.

By actively cross do you mean running a 3-way crossover or...?

I figured I'd get the 6.5 Comps and then go from there. The midbasses were mainly just a proposal I was considering.

Those midbasses were the only ones I saw under the Diamond website and I do believe they are the HEX Series Midbass upgrades...I could be wrong though. Here's the link:

I've heard the comps take much more power, and crave more power. The rms on them is 20-170w. If I just run those up front and throw out the midbasses would you recommend more power or still the 50-100?

Thanks for the response. Any/all input and response on this would be greatly appreciated.

As long as you don't blow them up you can't really go wrong with lots of power to your front stage. If you're stuck on 3-way what I would do is get the 4" diamond hex set with the midbass add-on. You'd end up with tweeter, 4.5" hex midrange and 6.5" hex midbass.

The one you listed actually wasn't the same model number as any midbass on their site, but I too the first letter of the model number as more important than the number itself. There are 6.5 midbasses in both lines. Beside the point though...

By actively crossing with two midbasses I meant using a two-way crossover between the tweet and the midbasses and having both 6.5s acting as midbass/midranges. Otherwise, I would go with a 4" comp set and a 6.5 midbass or just the 6.5 comp set.

Unless they are horribly inefficient, 50 watts is all you will likely ever use. Have 100 on tap just for dynamics, maybe 150 if your high-pass crossover is set lower and you are relying on the comps for a lot of your bass. If you need to run more power than that, something is wrong with your speakers or ears.

Great, thanks for the input...I think I'll go with the 6.5 comps and go from there. Then I could either do the midbass add on or buy a 4" comp set and sell the tweets and x-overs or something, or maybe run another set up front and try to get some better imaging with the additional tweets.

helotaxi...my bad on the part number.

Thanks all for your input.

I checked out that link and I didn't realize it had the RAF output. So then I guess my question is this.

How many amps to run for this system?

If I go 3-way up front with the 4" comps and 6.5" midbass add-ons. I could either power them separately or together.

What are the advantages of each, if any? Also if I power them together then, accodring to helotaxi's post should I combine the total wattage and power them with 125-250watts?

In, addition, if I ran the rear-fill off the RAF output on the x-over would I need to worry about feeding any more power to it aside from whatever amount of power the x-over will dedicate to the rear fill or will the power draw be minimal?

Hey jb4153 Diamond Audio wrote me back, here's the email.

from: Thomas Kuprewicz tkuprewicz@diamondaudio.com

I would recommend at least 100 watts to each set if running in a bi-amp configuration, so 100 watts for the 4” & tweeter, and then 100 watts for the 6”, this requires 4 separate channels of power.

You can run all of the speakers together with a 2 channel amplifier also, make sure the amplifier will do close to 200 watts a channel to run all the speakers.

Our D5600.4 does 94 watts a channel, and our D5600.2 does close to 180 watts a channel into 4 ohm.

Thank you,

Coop

i dont know, i dont have the D7 hooked up yet, my HEX's are still running off my D5 300.2, when i get the time next week, i'll install the amp (i need to make a new amp rack)

outbacksport, thanks for the info. I emailed them yesterday for similar answers and haven't heard back from them yet.

With the powering issue dealt with now I'm trying to decide whether to go 2 or 3 way...decisions decisions.
