Advice on runing Phoenix Gold rsd 65cs 6½" witth kicker zx550.2

hell yea it is! i had my rsd's running passive on that amp.

now i have my set running active and have the 550.2 on just the mids alone. :) it's a bit overkill, but i just don't use all of it. but i'll have extra if i need to upgrade.

Get the 650.4 and run active //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The 550.2 will be fine just set the gains correctly.

yea go active with them if you can. it makes quite a difference with this set. i'm sure it makes a good difference going active with almost anything though if it's done right.

the only way i would go active with a 4 channel would be to use 4 channel with staggered outputs. like for example the DDS4. 200x2 at 4 ohms for mids, and 100x2 for tweeters. no need to have an amp that does 120x4 when the mids could use more and the tweeters not use anywhere near that amount.

100x2 will also be to much for most tweeters though as well. but at least they are on the right track knowing mids need more and giving you more for them.

but yes the 550.2 will be fine on the set used passivley. i don't think you'll ever clip that amp with those speakers. it'll get the rsd's way louder than needed before it gets anywhere near clipping. you'll either go deaf or just straight up over power them. but it'll get waaaayyyy loud before you start to hurt them.

When I get my new gear I am going to get separate amps for the mids and tweets. Probably the 450.2 and the 200.2. - For that very reason.

sounds doable. i'm keeping my 550.2 for the mids and i'm gonna get either the 200.2 or the 250.2 for my tweets. probably the 250.2.

it will work. just make sure you adjust your gains accordingly
honestly once you get using enough power you can set them by ear cause you won't be using anywhere near all of it. the 550.2 on the rsd's will get them plenty loud before you get anywhere near clipping that amp.

some technical info for some of you: 28.6 volts at 4 ohms would be 205 watts. when i was running my rsd's passively i never saw my DMM reading over 18 volts on the speaker terminals on the amp while playing music at really loud levels. 18 volts is roughly 80-85 watts. so thats nowhere near clipping that amp. even if you used double the power i was(which would get them REALLY loud) then you'd still only be at 160, still not that close to clipping.

so when you have more than enough power just set them by ear to whatever volume you feel like. as long as you have quality stuff it'll take it.

dont want to get flamed by asking this but whats the difference in active and passive
http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146726

Passive - uses an external crossover (one per side) that filters out the full range signal from an amplifier sending lower frequencies to the mid bass and higher frequencies to the tweeter (assuming it is a two-way system). The crossover points are pre-set and non-adjustable. Most of the passive units provide limited attenuation adjustments.

Active - requires processing that is capable of adjusting (tweaking) crossover points and attenuation. Most prefer this processing to be located from the head unit, but there are cheaper, external crossovers available. All components involved require their own channel of amplification. So, if you have a two-way setup you will need four channels of amplification. Basically, you get to tweak the system to your liking as opposed to a passive system, where it has been predetermined for you. Having an active setup gives you more control over your stereo.

I have never gone active, but I plan to very soon.

EDIT - you guys are too fast for me

you need to. it's sweet! it's nice having all the control.

i think i need an RTA setup now to tell me whats going on because after a certain point i can't really hear much of a difference between certain points and slopes.

so bascially if you are a begginer go passive

i am looking at 6.5 comps by polk momo's any input on those

also how much rms would u give the tweeter if you went active

I know. I need to go in the order of my priorities though. First priority is a new car. The deal fell through on what I thought was a lock, so now I am back to square one. It sucks even more now too because Kicker has updated their accomodations for all of their '08 stuff, but I don't want to buy anything until i know what car it is going in.

What is an RTA? I see it mentioned every once in a while, but I never knew what it was...
