Advice on pairing 500w amp with a 400w sub

Complete novice here...would like to pair a

500 w sub, the JL Audio JL500/1 (Rated Power: 500W RMS @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm (11V-14.5V)) with

the 400 w JL Audio 10W6v2-D4 (10" Component Subwoofer, RMS Power handling: 400 watts, Dual 4 Ohms 2.75" diameter, 4-layer voice coils)..

Tried reading up on what makes the best pairing without killing the subs but couldn't find anything on it....really just about wiring etc. and ensuring the amp is within the rms range of the sub..but nothing on exceeding it...Would appreciate any advice...

Sorry not 500 w sub..but 500 w amp..the JL 500/1

first off you have to know how to properly set your gains (read gain tutorial in amp section) second you will wire that sub in parallel (see wwiring diagram sticky in wire forum). now that will present a 2 ohm load to that amp and you'll get 500 watts going to that sub. 500 watts is definately not too much, and when playing music with impedance rise, your sub will never see 500 watts anyways
