advice from the spl guru's

did i read 2cf? thats really small, not that i think your wrong, but i am just surprised. also as of right now, no money for aero ports, poured all money into equipment. and i have no idea what 1/4 wave port therory is.
smaller boxes are peakier and better for comps, and they also allow for more power handling since they are less efficient. larger boxes are better for daily cause they can drop lower

i do use it for daily also, but i would still like to compete. i do like the idea of a smaller box as my box is too big as of right now to compete in anything lower than super modified in usaci do to my box being above window line in hatch area.

i have also removed my headliner which i believe qualifies as an interior mod/ceilng mod which throws me into super modified also.

to be fair, if you are using external aeros you can make a 2 cube box with half a sheet of MDF. no point in sacrificing numbers in comps, or SQ for a daily just to have one box.

you are right! we are going after 601-1800 superstock this year and you see the number's we are doing already in my avitar. this is the first big system we have had in this vehicle and we are on our way to a championship with a few tricks still to be done.

the link you provided is awesome. has lots of info in it and it all seems to make sense also. though it will take me some time to fully understand it, but i can start on finding the resonant freq of my vehicle etc.
yeah we did a wall played with it found our peak did the math and it was dead on with what we tested.BUT it ****** numbers wise

wow you cant even say s u c k e d on this forum LOL

based on this digramn i would measure from cone of sub to sensor placement area. my question is, if sub us up port is back, how would i measure that? it seems ideally you would want the sub forward due to the sound waves ability being able to travel better to the sensor.

sub forward might work for you! but the only way to know is to test it. if you truly want to play the spl game you will have a stack of box's in your garage collecting dust until you find the right set up.

here is an example we built the system for my vehicle the night before the show installed it the morning of the show and tested in the parking lot at the show and it did a 160.8! keep in mind this is the very first big system this has had. the box is double layer birch from home depot 3 sheets $45 each. well i have 3 other designs I will be building and testing at the same cost. spl is not cheap or easy we just happened to find a spl freak of nature.

the very first box we put in it was a 12" kanoki with a sundown 1500 just for fun and it was doing a 153 with no tricks and with 4k we had it doing a 154.7 with no tricks.

spl is all about testing and building and spending money LOL

See this is what boggles my mind. I have more power and cone area than you konaki sundown set up and I am hotting in the mid 140s @ the dash. I just can't see how building a perfect box would bring me into the 150s.

My box must be super inefficient.

well now you are comparing apples to oranges! this vehicle is a freak of nature for outlaw but sealed on the dash it it like 6-7 db off.

we clamped 9300 watts form our amps and we beat guys with 12k 16k and even 32k in big wall builds.so with that being said you you just cant compare the 2.

your box is huge for one 18 that is for sure.your port might be to big also just because of the ratio you are using.

like i said just for fun build a smaller box even if you build it for daily and make it half that size take it down and put it on a meter see what happens. then if your not happy you are only out $50 tops and a day of building

ok question i have the same dilema. i have a AQ HDC318 as shown in sig. my box is 5.8 cubes. I do daily and bassrace. I was told before 5.8cu is a bit big for comp. should i drop down a bit as well?

so maybe a 5 cube box would be fine, with port area of 14-16 inches per cubic foot. i can shrink my current box pretty easily and shrink the port also.
thats a good start! let us all know how it does on the meter!

well it all depends on what you want to do with it! depending on res freq of the vehicle you might get the best of both worlds. my comp vehicle plays 68hrtz so theres no daily lowend there to be had
