Advice for choosing an 18"...

I cam across both of these subs for a decent price, I havent used either personally and I dont know which would perform better in my application. The sub will have 1500-1600 rms going to it in a ~5-6 cf box ported low to probably 26-28 hz.

1. DD 3518 D2

2. Sound Splinter RLP-18 D2

I will be using a sundown 1500 with plenty of electrical to power it.

Any advice on choosing between the two? I am open to offers for other subs too, these are just two that I came across for a good price on the forums.

Which would you pick and why?

Thanks,

Cody

I would choose the rlp-18 personally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

That sundown is probably more on par for the 3518 and will most likely be alot louder setup honestly.

Nothing wrong with headroom though, the rlp would sound tons better. Depends on what you want to do.

edit...just saw your tuning preference. I'd go with the rlp tuned that low. If you go with the 3518 tune higher and it will wang and still have good low end.

I want a lotttt of low end, i didnt think the DD sounded bad though? does it? you say the rlp will sound TONSS better???

This will be a street beater to show what a real 1500-1600 watts can do against some buddies that have "SPL 5500watt amps" with 8awg power wire, yeah its rediculous... They dont understand what real audio is.

I want the loudest possible, not worried much about SQ this time around. 85% SPL / 15% SQ if that helps.

get that soundsplinter. it's good for daily listening, but will still get mad loud. i've never been a huge fan of dd. they are good subs, but don't seem to do it for me on all forms of music and all forms of moving bass notes

If you want loud it sounds like the 3518 will do the trick with that much power.

...of course a guy on the forum here "oxsign" hit a 148 I believe with one ported rlp-18 on 1200w

yeah, i know who your talking about. He lives around me local, was his numbers on the TL?

also, you rlp is Dual 2 right? what do the coils read? I'd like to keep the final load 1 ohm or under.

Just checked em, they both hover between 1.9 and 2.0 You wouldn't need to be under 1ohm for that sundown to get the rlp to reach its limits depending on the box.

I think the 3518 could take everything that sundown could give it. If I was in your shoes and wanted the loudest I'd pick the 3518, if I wanted the most low end and a better sound go with the rlp. Oxsigns numbers were on the TL.

I'll quit posting now though as obviously my opinion is biased...haha

haha, no problem man, thanks for being honest. The box will be about 5 cubes tuned to probably 26hz, hopefully it wont put it past it's limits. I definetely want to pound the sh*t of the lows. I dont care about competing as of now, but a 148 on the TL would make me happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
