Forgive me, I know this is a speakers 101 question, but it's been a long time.

I would like to add two 6 x 9 speakers to a factory radio that supports only two speakers. The connector on the back of the radio is wired as such:

Yellow - +12V Memory

Red - +12V

White/Orange - Dimmer

Orange - Illumination

Black/Grey - Right Front Speaker

Black/White - Left Front Speaker

Blue - Ground

Is it reasonable to splice into the speaker connections and both to the ground?

Thanks.

NO. Never use ground for a speaker return lead. If your stereo can handle additional speakers, you would connect them to the same pairs of wires used for the existing ones.

You may find that your factory stereo won't handle additional speakers without becomming distorted. The best solution is to use an external amplifier for the new speakers and tap into the existing speaker wires for the amp's inputs. That'd also give you the ability to adjust the balance front-rear.

Thanks. That makes sense. It sounds pretty good as is.

That’s the little single 6.5 inch enclosure. The Savard did just as well as the RDS. These subs do well in ported or 6th orders but not as well...

It is a little overkill with the batteries, but underkill with the alternator. Ideally, you want an alternator that will keep up with your system...
