Adding 6.5" subs to the rear doors?

Hmm I know Clarion makes an active x-over for under 100 that's supposed to be pretty sweet. Check out Audio Savings | Welcome to AudioSavings.com and find it. I'd just put that in your system and go to town.
:/ this is getting more expensive. I dont like the sound of that. But I think I found it. I would only run the RCAs for the JLs through this. I could use the Clarion as the HPF and the 4 channel amp as the LPF.

That's the one I was talking about.

This is not the hobby to have if you're worried about things getting too expensive, mang. It can be a life-long, wallet-emptying passion project. But it's all worth it in the end.

I just asked mylows10 what he thinks. And he says I should run it full pass. What do you think about that?

That's fine. You mentioned you're not looking for a crazy sq system anyway. He's got more experience than I do, too, so I'd go for his opinion over mine

Getting that punch out of your system, especially with regard to midbass, is pretty much all about the install and EQ. ChadB has a really good snippet over on DIYMA about getting that "2x4 to the chest" kinda bass...see if you can find that for some help. He spent a lot of time tweaking the subsonic filter and EQ to get it to where he was finally happy with it.
I've felt that "2x4 on the chest" with a pair of Blues audio 6 1/2" comps mounted in the front doors, stock location, from a mid-priced Kenwood powered by a Linear Power LP2250(2x250wrms @ 4ohms @ 12.8v). Speakers and amp about $1900 but sounded like the system had subs when rap was played. I would buy this system if I didn't have 1 kid in college and another going to start next year.

So maybe I should just turn up the gains and dial down every frequency above 200hz?

Where this guy's doors deadened to heck? Or did he have some pods or baffles or anything?

I have a foam strip around the 6.5" in my front doors, but I couldn't really notice a difference when I did it, and that's the only thing I've done to the doors except put the new speakers in them. Maybe I need some heavier foam? I used open cell. And I'm not completely sure it's enough to go the whole way between the speaker and door panel. It was a pretty half-assed attempt at getting better midbass response out of the Focals.

@neo_styles; @Kingstroker;

While I was driving today I just boosted the 200hz range using my HU to +10dB. I began to feel some of that missing kick, but I had to have the volume way up (not to mention the EQ was at a crazy setting). So I think the frequencies my system is lacking right now are in the 100-200hz range. I wouldnt want to keep the EQ at that setting though becuase it made certain parts of the song sound bad/wrong. And I think those JL woofers might make all the difference (I've been calling them subs, but they are actually just midbass woofers). I can always return them if they dont do what I'm expecting I suppose.

Sounds good. Yeah, EQ is a weird thing and will definitely make or break a system (literally and figuratively). Sounds like you're on the right track, though. Keep it up.

Now that you know what you are looking for, I think you will find it with a proper front stage install. How do you have those Focals installed? Have you done any deadening or sealing work to your front doors?

Alright guys. I'm an idiot. I cant believe I didnt realize this before, and I dont really even want to post this here. It all makes sense now. I went to the speaker amp to turn the gain up and took a look at the other settings. I gave them all a turn and set them back to normal just to check them. When I came across the HPF screw, I was amazed. I had used the wrong line of the + sign to set it. So instead of being set at 90hz, it was set at 450hz. I cant believe what I was missing! It's been like this since I installed this amp (so about a month). I used an alpine power pack that did 45x4 prior to this amp so I never really got that good midbass response out of my speakers. And it's no wonder I was a little disappointed when I put in the Polk amp expecting it to really bring my Focals to life, the HPF was wayyyy high. Hahah. Oh jeeze. The missing frequencies have been found! Sorry for taking your time, I feel so stupid. But I am still thinking about putting the JLs in. If my Focals can do what they are doing now, I can only imagine how much better it would be with dedicated midbass woofers.

Thanks for your help guys! (especially @neo_styles)

Thanks, man. Glad you figured out how to make it work.

I bet it's a crossover setting. Even tuned to 33, you should be able to get proper "rock music" response (mid 40hz and 65hz) quite easily. Make sure your low-pass is at like 80hz, or 63hz with a very gradual slope (3/6). Mid drivers should be able to be crossed at 100 or 120 and the two should meet well causing no loss in output between your subs and mids.
