Hondas are all top end. Just look at the powerband on them. 4-5k to redline is where hondas get going. Just think of VTEC as having 2 cams, the lower cam lobes are good for gas mileage, the higher cam lobes are good for performance. Most of the newer cars you see today have some sort of variable valve timing. It's a great concept, it's the stupid ricers that made vtec into a joke.

Quite the contrary. The low end on honda sucks but in the upper region is where the VTEC programming can really be noticed...

Since it doesn't do anything until then that would make sense. The S2000 was a great example. Lots of ponies but sucked off the line becuase it had no bottom end. Typical Japanese performance design.

12.6 with 230 HP?!? Something don't add up.

Unless something has changed recently the quickest front dragger is still a domestic.
