acura 2002 rl with bose stereo

Hi, I recently bought a 2002 RL with a Bose stereo...went to a car toys place in Seattle and they told me you can't use the factory Bose speakers with a non Besk deck or even the factory amp, and quoted me $3-$4k for a new system!!

Are they right? Am I stuck with a 2002 bose tape deck unless I want to pay $3k? I am not that handy, so doing a change myself is not possible, but I want to try to at least understand what has to be done and then try to find a shop near Bellevue that can do it, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check with Foss Audio and Tint in Payullap. They're in the running for Retailer of the Year 2012-2013. You don't need to pay $3K for an upgrade but there may be some work required that makes it a more complicated job than a basic car. Right now I'm seeing that you should be able to use a Metra 70-1725 wire harness to use an aftermarket head unit with the factory Bose amplifier. That's strike 1 against Car Toys.

Yeah they don't know what they are talking about.

Do you have the indash 6 disk cd changer?

If so I would keep the stock head unit and have a line output converter installed so you can add an aftermarket amp and subs. and use your factor head unit and speakers.

I have several cars that use a head unit that controls several other things so I like to keep them Bluetooth/Navi. AC Controls ect.
