hi guys,

i keep reading this active and passive, what is it ? what does it mean?

i was just reading an amp ad and the guy said he was selling is amp because he wanted a passive amp ???

i don't under stand.

and i read about it with component speakers.

if there a link or ??

i would like to learn about it.

thanks.

There are plenty of links.Basically passive is non adjustable crossover, active is adjustable crossover. That's a minimal description
wrong. Passive is adjustable with the swapping of components (coil, tansistor etc.) active is an electronic crossover easily adjustable as its ELECTRONIC. Why someone would sell an amplifier because it is active capable is like shooting oneself in the foot. why? I love active filtering in a car. never going back

Psh. You took my comment way out of context

Passive uses a single channel to run the mid and tweeter .passive crossover splits the highs and lows.

Active needs a separate channel for mid and tweeter plus some sort of crossover. Either add on electronic, or built into the amp.as long as it goes pretty high for the tweet.. around 3-5khz.
