Acoustic Elegance AV15

Every single driver I have ever put into use for myself has had a minimum of 100 hours of break-in using a Polarad signal generator and any one of my capable amplifiers. I have had hundreds upon hundreds of drivers in my hands since the age of twelve. I know when a driver is good and when it isn't.
My efforts are to bring a halt to this smear campaign. Your issues are with John and and his product, not the rest of us.

So, you're saying nobody should know about my issues? Nobody should have this information beforehand to make the best decision for themselves?? Thats counter-productive.

And breaking in on some signal generator is a bit excessive, isn't it?

I'm not of the opinion that the information shouldn't be made public, just not with the approach that you guys are taking.

It's commonplace among a great number of high end manufacturers of niche-type loudspeakers to use a signal generator for the break-in/burn-in. How else would I make the distinction of selecting the exact frequency to burn in a high frequency driver vs. a low frequency driver? I guess that having a matched pair of drivers is out of the question too? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Simple question for ya guys? Cause I am simply going off of what I have come to understand. Is it true that you bought this sub with all intentions to use it as an SQ driver. Then you realized its a loud SQ driver so then you went to see how loud you could get it? Im not picking fights here, just going off of my understanding.

I did have a identical driver to what you have in my car and simply put it was fine on the power I gave it. Either im doing something really right or there is a possibility something went wrong. Im not calling you a liar and I am trying to be very mature in this conversation. All I am stating is that John came to my house with a woofer, and told me to let loose on it. He said he didnt care what happened and would like the results posted either way. For me... the results were more then acceptable. The Parameters barely changed and that sub took tons of power. Maybe it needs a bigger box, im not sure.

The best way for me to learn how a product works is first hand and I saw the product work, it worked great and was actually really competitive with several SPL woofers that are double the size. I understand install is 90% of it in case of TL numbers but still the sub held up. Even a bassrace for 30 seconds above 140dbs is impressive for any single 15 to do and the AV did it without breaking a sweat.

The only time there was any concern was when we burped a tone at I believe 70-75hz. The subs cooling was ineffective and there was a little warmth to the sub. But iI saw no folding cone or any issues with the build and design of what John has.

Just curious did you get the sub back to John?

Also do you have any pics or vids, I would just like to see what you saw. Thanks

I bought it wanting an affordable, loud SQL driver. Mine WAS an AV15-X, until bassfreak folded it up and got it reconed into an H. I had it in 3.5 tuned to 25 Hz with 29 in^2 of port area with ~1000 watts. At first I did have setup issues. Turned out one side of the sub-outputs was bad on my HU (or the Knu RCA is bad). Once I started sending it full power, I started noticing the issue of a lack of upper end more and more. After months of trying to figure out what was up with it and wanting a solution, I was sick and tired of it. Joel (papermaker) didn't believe what I was saying, John kept telling me I was an idiot instead of telling me to send the driver back, Joel bought it, installed it, and heard it for himself. After he got tired of listening to the coil rocking with the soft spiders, he turned it up to see what the sub would take till it folded up on itself.

Also, worth noting - the coil rocked and scraped the shit out of the coil. Apparently, it also scored a line in the coil which was enough to i guess cut almost all the way thru the top layer. John has the pics. John claims this may have contributed to the lack of upper frequency extension as well. I had a feeling the coil was rubbing, I had said so in my posts, papermaker didn't care/listen w/e and wanted to buy it from me, so I took it out, took a couple really crappy pics of the lines in the coil, and shipped it off. However, I still did it wrong according to John //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Im not saying anyone did anything wrong, simply stating that in my tests there were no issues, and in yours there were. Im not here to defend AE. I am simply stating what I saw. Very few companies come up to me and say give this sub hell. So I find it very honorable of a company to go to an SPL competitor, specially a SQ company and offer such a thing. I posted what I saw and described how I feel about the sub. I never saw your sub or pictures of it so I can not say anything for that sub, Im simply going off of my first hand experiences, and I was happy with that.

i wished it would have worked out, turns out after playing it for a while the glue joint on the spider affects its linear movement. at around xmax forward it very easily moves 5mm with next to no extra applied force, so when a note above 50 played it would bottom even with moderate power.. it started off fin, broke in and the problem became apparent.. i immediately told john, and he said it migh be clipping/poor signal, but i cheched it out and nothing was wrong... i had 4 alpha 15s, and recently a dd 2515 and i had no problems...

your completly wrong, son.. its been boxed up since last wedensday... it was ****ed with 2 days of play. it was bearly listenable. i waited almost 8 weeks to get it.. visit caf you can see exactly what happened.. fact that it plays up to 80hz with 2k in 4.5 tuned to 38 is totally unbelieveable.. qt an fs are too **** low...
On 6/23 you stated in the following post:

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6293396#post6293396

"the coil is perfectly fine, no rubbing etc.. the suspension is so so i have to cross it around 50 if i want some decent output below 50.."

I, along with many others assumed that the driver was working as you claimed the only issue was that it moved wildly above 50Hz and often moved out but not in. It was assumed the woofer is still in a playable condition for it to be moving in this fashion. I agreed to send a $200 check to reimburse you for a woofer that you had never even bought from me directly. You could go your own way with no loss of any money. The intent again was to test that specific woofer you had the problems with at BumpinBuick's place to verify what you were describing as it had not been seen in any other driver to date, not was he able to recreate this issue. You had this check in hand on 6/24 along with a return label to send the woofer back right away. As you are 2 ups days away I figured I would have it back in hand early this week to bring to Appleton to do the testing.

On Tuesday, 6/30 you sent me an email stating that you had not yet had a chance to call UPS to pick up the woofer and had folded up the cone with 1600W. I was under the impression that it was working fine prior to sending you the check. Either it was damaged after that conversation, or you had not been clear to myself or everyone else about the condition of the driver. Many were waiting for YOUR driver to arrive back here and be tested by BumpinBuick in the condition it was returned. This would have either validated that the woofer was operating properly or validate the issue that you claim it had. Now we cannot test it to verify either way.

John

saturday i called ups with no avail, told you the situation and you did nothing. i told you from jump a simple recone(HELLO) would suffice, this would have given you time to test and look over it, i was even willing to pay for the recone because i tried crossing it @70 and ugk folded the cone at moderate volume.. you didn't even reply you just wanted the woofer back so u could recone it and make another 250.. i told you get in touch with ups.. the woofer is still sitting in the hotel lobby, the cone doesn't affect the problem, it sounds the same as it did before it folded...
