Yeah, doing things the right way is really ****ed up, I know.

Well, real power supplies intended for shop use are basically computer power supplies anyway, besides he asked specifically about wiring them in series or parallel, you could have atleast told him they needed to be wired in parallel to retain 12v instead of jumping to 48.

If he was running a 5A load, I'd tend to agree. But even 60-70 continuous amps is a lot of current for a good quality linear 12V supply, without mentioning switched-mode supplies.

Bottom line is, I'm not going to recommend a halfassed way of doing things.

i'm no electrician but how would 2 independent PSUs physically be wired together via the same wire(s)?

That's 2 separate regulators trying to control the same 12v run... That sounds safe.....

I could understand getting a SINGLE RAIL PSU and wiring all of it's 12v wires together BUT.... PSUs do not offer 12v grounds capable of grounding the 12v power they output...

Ah HAh! didnt think about that did ya?

Try buying an 80A single rail PSU for $180 and try grounding up to 80A worth through the 12v ground wires... fire will occur unless psu goes up in smoke first.
