i recently blew my p3 12 and i'm looking to replace it. i'm thinking of buying a fi ssd 12 but i'm open to other suggestions. i have a rf 700s 2 channel amp rated for 175 rms @ 4 ohms or 350 @ 2 ohms. my question is if i go with the fi ssd 12 should i go with the dual 1 or dual 2? and what are the flatwindcoil, copper coil, and bp power options? are they worth my money?

thanks for helping,

chip

The 700s puts out more than 350 when bridged I think. If so...get a dual 2 ohm ssd and wire it to 4 ohm. Then you just bridge your amp and you're good to go.

should have included that in my original post, the amp is bridged. not sure as to what it puts out bridged, i'm guessing 700 @ 4ohms?

That sounds pretty reasonable. 700 would be fine for an ssd. You'll need to get a dual 2 ohm and wire it in series to get a 4 ohm load.

out of curiosity, does anyone know of a place i can get an ssd for less than the price on the manufacturer's website?

I remember reading copper coil has something to do with enhancing sq but doesn't effect power handling too much. I may be wrong though.

that might be worth the money then. i'm more cincerned with sq than loudness. but, of course, i still want some nice bump

from what i understant this is correct. the copper is supposed to be better sq the aluminum coil is a little more eff. i think the power handling is about the same.

it's only an extra $5 which is completely reasonable if it's going to improve sq. the other options are a bit more pricey though.

just read up on the bp power option, fi says,

"This new option adds a machined aluminum compression plug to the pole which helps channel all of the air under the dustcap around the coil for better cooling. To aid with this increased airflow we also add 6 axial cooling channels in the top plate. Along with increased thermal capacity comes the addition of an extra spider and a changed spider pack. All of these new features increase power handling from 200-500 Watts depending on the application. "

i'm not that versed in this language. translation?

It is just saying that the bp power option increases the power handling. You are not running that much power so you wouldnt need this.
