Featured About IB Enclosures

This was one of tbe first ones that popped up when I searched IB woofers. The price point kinda scared me away cause I was looking at getting at least two of them snd thats would be over $500 after taxes with two.

You think one 15 would be good if itd fit?
If I was doing a single ib sub, I'd lean towards an 18 tbh

Thinking about doing an IB setup for my Mustang. My first question would be how hard is it to seal these holes in the rear deck? A cheap option would be multiple layers of cardboard sealed with duct tape with CLD over top, but not sure if that would be adequate. Maybe 1/8 ABS plastic, tape, and CLD? Does it need to be 100 percent completely sealed?

2nd I know IB is a more SQ oriented build that requires much less power, what kind of power and size/amount of drivers would be necessary to get a good 130ish DBs? I know thats a variable answer question but not sure if anyone else with IB setups could advise their general experience. Also, Subsonic filter: unneeded or necessary?
I'm not going to read through it all but for you or someone else, I used whatever plastic I found in the recycle bin to plug holes. To go containers, lunch meat boxes, laundry gallon containers work great. Cut just larger than the hole, then I secured it with adhesive sound deadening from the INSIDE the box. So the plastic patch and the sound deadening are installed from inside the box. It seems to work perfectly fine for 12's. The larger the hole, the more rigid the plastic needs to be. For 4in [100mm] holes I used thin 1/8" [3mm] wood paneling from some project I had laying around because I didn't have plastic rigid enough for my gut feeling.

The question was asked about needed cone for a certain output level. When talking IB cone is king and can overcome less than perfect installation but understand any losses due to cancellation could have been output on the user side.
I love hearing how big, bad monster subs are an option. Low Ebp, low-medium power subs work best. Higher power options expose any fault in the installation immediately. Potential output becomes a giant shaker in the trunk past low levels once hi output starts to occur.

Stick to low-medium power.

My .02

The title of this thread is misleading... there's no such animal as an IB enclosure but there are IB installs. Cone is king when trying to overcome cancellation and there will be some... thru the floor at the seats, somewhere at the parcel shelf or the quarters above the wheelwells. Even the trunklid seals leak especially when putting any kind of real power to the system.
Lowish power and low Ebp/hi in2 cone=the best you'll likely get.

Cut out a wood template, spray it with minimal expanding foam, cover the tray, spray the tray, lay some wax paper down over the foam or not if you want it to stick to the tray or board, then set the template in the tray on top of the foam with some weights on it, let it dry, vualla! I'd recommend making your template out of MDF or, if a thin one is needed, 1/4" hardboard.

As it relates to sealing the rear deck, I would screw in steel metal plates to seal the large holes and cover the area with a deadener. Then purchase an attractive cover. The idea of using MDF is also a good one.
