A little insecure...

Hey guys, brand new to ca.com, def. not new to ROE but i have a little problem. See, I have a 2006 RE XXX 12 in a 3.5 cube box before displacement with 2 3" aeros tuned to 40hz running off a Hifonics Colossus II @ 1 ohm in an ext. cab silverado with an Iraggi 300a alt. 1/0g kicker wire, an optima yellow top and a lot of dynamat. Now my friend has a 4runner with a 13W7 in a relativly small ported box tuned a lot lower on 1 JL 1000/1 and his shit is pretty loud. He wanted to put a thousand dollars that his sub will beat mine on the new TL. Now from what I hear, its not much of a competition, the XXX will win hands down, but I heard the sub a little bit in my truck with no windows and only 1/3 of the big three done. Not only did i get serious voltage drops, the sub was not that loud...i did have the bass know all the way down on the deck and on the amp, but when I turned the bass knob for the colossus up, it got sorta loud, but the voltage was dropping so bad. Now, I hope its just the fact that i'm windowless cuz my truck is gettin painted, shaved, etc. and that the big 3 wasn't completed but I haven't heard any numbers from anyone with a XXX so its got me a little nervous. We got some good money on the line and I just need to know whats up, am I gonna win? Is there something im doin wrong? I dunno mane...

big 3, and make sure grounds are good and you have proper gauge wires and idk what else to tell you

Scrap your current box and start over with something a bit more appropriate for that sub. That isnt near enough port area and youve probably got too much airspace.

yea 300 amp alternator and bad voltage drop is a problem....

I wouldn't put the money on it. Even though you have better equipment, it sounds like he has a better install. I would pick a better install over equipment any day.

I agree. That sub has potential to move mass amounts of air. You don't have NEAR enough. Try something lik e50-70 sq inches in 3 cubes, maybe a little less even. Not sure whats reccomeded, but 2.5-3 is usually a little big for most 12's.

Did you happen to look over the tech sheet that came with your alternator? There is a chart to fill out that will find any problem you may with your electrical system.
