ok guys, ive been here a bit and, learned alot. i know that a good install is key. how do i do it? everything is in my sig. its in temp. i want to know how to do a good solid install.

also, i have a simple deck. its got 1 pre amp out put. what would i gain from a better performing HU?

a new h/u will have higher voltage pre outs which affects the sound quality...

and you would have more than one pre-out...

as far as install...do you have pics?

it sounds like a decent set up for what ya got...

Just pay attention to the details. For instance, installation of speakers is more than removing the door panels, and screwing it in. A good installer will use MDF baffles, non-hardening clay, sound deadener, and something to take care of the standing back waves. A box is more than a remanufactured POS, it's building a strong airtight box yourself. There's more to a ground than bolting it to your car, it's properly sanding down the mounting point. etc etc...

The keys to a good install? Well, that's a very broad subject, considering you aren't even asking about any one facet of car audio, just your whole system in general as described by a few words in a sig. Your sig describes every major component of your system, but lacks any form of instllation details. Its in those details that you will find all the keys to the 'proper' install.

Some general examples would be improving your speaker placement and/or positioning, not simply screwing new speakers to the old stock mount locations and calling it good. Another example would be to properly sound deaden the vehicle. An example with the subwoofer if you were going for SPL, doing the install 'right' would involve measuring your actual vehicle's specific transfer function and then designing your enclosure to reinforce that frequency range, rather than simply relying on some kid on the net telling you to 'tune to 45hz for SPL'. Properly setting your gains would be an obvious key to success. Even things like altering the shape and material design of your interior to better accomodate an audio system.

Those are all VERY general examples. Each of them has a wealth of specific things that can be done to improve your system/sound. Some are very common sense, like adding sound deadening. Some are not common knowledge, like exactly where is the best places to apply sound deadening, why, how much, and of what type/material. We cannot possibly tell you specifics on your system, as these things are generally dependant on the specific situation/vehicle/stereo/motives.

I suggest if you are looking for help with some of these sorts of things, make up a short list of ways you feel your system needs improving. Be as specific as possible, dont just say 'less distortion' or 'louder'. Show some pics. Give as much info as possible. Then we can be more help.

But in the end, we are dealing with each other (all of us) through computer screens. What we can do or suggest to improve your system is limited. Perhaps a run to a local (respected) install shop for a short time answering this same question (how can your system be improved) is in order. If you are serious about making these sorts of changes (abit more advanced than even most 'enthusiasts' get into) find a way to deal swith someone on a face to face basis and learn what you can from them.

it would only be of the temp install. i still have to make a much nicer version of my amp rack.

yea, i sanded down all the points of grouding. i did make baffels. i did not use sound deadening. what would the clay be for? also ive seen pics of using the stuff that you throw over your bed the egg cartoon style foam, like inside the actual door. is that for the back waves?

i dont have componets. would i notice a change with just my speakers? from deading my doors would i only notice a change in speakers?
