A little help from my friends!

hello guys,

I have purchased some items to outfit my new vehicle, and as I'm sure questions similar to this is always asked on here, I was hoping someone could help out my settings on the amp and maybe a rewriting of my sub. By not having any knowledge of audio systems (but a father who is an electrical engineer and helped me wire everything but didn't have time to help me configure and fine tune everything) I have a slight problem. I'm powering a single sub and have bridged my amp to do so. I can't seem to turn the volume very high before it shuts down and I am left with no bass. The sub is wired in parallel and I'm thinking I may need to go with series (feel like what I've read states this about the ohm load) anyways, if anyone could give any input that would be wonderful and I would appreciate it greatly, thanks.

Amplifier

GM Series 2-Channel Class A/B Car Amplifier

RMS Power Rating: (14.4V)

4 ohms: 125 watts x 2 chan.

2 ohms: 190 watts x 2 chan.

Bridged, 4 ohms: 400 watts x 1 chan.

Max power output: 820 watts x 1 chan.

MOSFET power supply

Selectable bass boost (0, 6, 12 dB at 50 Hz

Variable low-pass filter (40-500 Hz, 12 dB/octave)

Frequency response: 10-70,000 Hz

*

Subwoofer

10" 4-ohm*

frequency response 24-150 Hz

power range 75-400 watts RMS

peak power handling 800 watts

sensitivity 84.2 dB

Does your subwoofer have 2 coils or 1?

Sounds like you have a dual 4 ohm sub and are running both coils parallel which is showing your amp a 2 ohm load.

That amp cannot handle 2 ohms bridged.

Sub is an mtxthunder8000 and the amp is a pioneer

5500t, if that helps out any. Both were recommended to me by someone who I understood as knowing about car audio. Again any advice is appreciated and thanks for the help this far

That person knows less about car audio than you think he does.

You never recommend a Sub that is not compatible with the amp.

That setup is not going to work.

Can you return the amp?

You need an amp that is 1 channel 2 ohm stable

Thanks.. Amp was brand new and got it about $100 off from someone getting rid of it, so i didnt really blow too much om it, which would actually be good for a golf cart or something. But then again would it be sensible to just get another sub and hook it up to the 2 channel amp? I'm was hoping to add another sub in the future so maybe that would work?

That is not a very good amp. Better suited for door speakers rather than a subwoofer.

For a budget amp to run that subwoofer and another one just like it not problem would be an

AudioPipe APSM 1300 amp which is stable down to 1 ohm and will murder the amp you have.

They can be found for around $110 shipped

I just sold a brand new one for $85 last week.
