98 Camaro/Monsoon system questions

So I've been pondering past threads about camaros and I came upon one that involved the monsoon system. I am really worried about installing a system now that I came upon this post:

You cannot just replace the speakers in that Monsoon system, the amp sends active amplified signals to all 4 speakers so there are 16 leads coming out of it. You would need speakers that are bi-ampable so you could run the tweeter lead to the tweeter and the woofer lead to the woofer at all 4 positions the signals are pre crossed over at the amp.
I am assuming of course that your plan is to maintain the Monsoon system and add subwoofers.

If that system is the same as the one I had in my 2001 Grand Am GT even if you replace the head unit you have to have a special harness and keep the radio in the back of the car because it is integrated into the functioning of the car which was really messed up. I hope that yours is not the same way.

Good luck with it.
Personally I only understood about half of that, but nonetheless I've come to realize that I may not be able to do this install.

I was planning on replacing everything in the car from the 6.5s in front, the rear speakers (not sure on size), completely removing the trunk speakers (not sure on size), the HU, and adding a 4ch comp amp, 2 DD1508s, and an amp to power them.

I was wondering what kind of problems I'd run into and if it's even worth it to start the project or if I'd be better off just replacing my 2 blown speakers. I was also wondering if my stock batt and alt will be able to handle this kind of setup considering i'm sending ~2000wrms to the subs.

Pull everything, and replace with aftermarket. It is a big upgrade from the famed Monsoon shit. Bypassing the amp is as easy as running new wire to the existing door speakers. Your factory should be factory 2ohm up front.

Also take into consideration that I am in no way shape or form a fabricator. I can barely cut wood for a box nor to I have any of the tools needed. I do have a lot of friends that have the tools, but I don't know if I trust them to fabricate something that I'm going to put in my dash. I was also going to install a carputer after I get my system up and running.

that statement is not true, i had a 1999 ***** Am Firehawk, with the monsoon system, its your standard GM wireing harness, like my tahoe uses, trucks, blah blah, but its as simple as anyother set up!!

Dash kit, is readily availbale. Wirng harness can be found with the dash kit. If you plan on doing a double screen in the dash you will need to do a bit of fabrication.

just as said above you will only run into problems if you plan on using the factory monsoon amp.

running wires in my 96 ***** am was absolutely the easiest car ive ran wires in. my civic was much harder. running the rca's in the TA was so easy cause i could stick my hand up to the back of the HU and my hands are huge.

buy the dash kit from crutchfield and theyll send you step by step instructions i believe. they did when i ordered my kick panels.

Alright so that covers one question.. Is my battery/alt going to be okay to run all this stuff. I don't plan on buying super high wattage comps or anything.

Do the Big 3 1st. The charging sysyem in these cars is suspect. I also recomend a Battery upgrade even with a moderate system. I have had 3 4th gen Fbodies and have had to upgrade electrical in all of them.

Alright another question for a previous f-body owner.. How much dynamat/sound deadner did you have to use? Does the hatch require any and if so where the hell would you put it?

Also what exactly should I buy to upgrade the electrical?

Extra 4 guage to upgrade your charge line and ground wires. Sound deadening can be used sparingly on the hatch and and rear panel behind the taillights will need at least 2 layers. If using the well for the box you can skip the well or just do a single layer for road noise when not jamming.
