my buddy has a 96 nissan maxima with the factory Bose stereo. is there any reason he can't get an aftermarket HU? he said whenever he talks to people at BB they say he can't, but when he talks to people that know what they are talking about they say he can. i don't know why they say he can't, but i don't understand why he can't get one, maybe he needs an amp bypass or something. also, any recommendations?

I used to own a 91 & a 99 maxima. You can absolutly easly replace the head unit. You will however need to bypass the bose amp located by each speaker. Not hard at all, did it to both cars, worked great.

Yep, just hard wire directly to the speakers. You don't have to run all new wires from the deck. Just unhook the speaker wire from the amp, connect bypass speaker wire and then unhook the wire connected to the speaker and connect bypass wire. That's it. easy enough... Now if your running an amp, rewire everything.

No need for even using adaptors. Simply splice in Male RCAs leads to the factory speaker leads or a Metra 7550 harness, then plug into your preout section. Or even simpler, but usually more difficult to find..Metra 70-7551 harness.

Bose HU uses a flat unamplied/Low level signal.

he thinks there is an amp for each speaker, so the HU wouldn't have enough preouts if that was the case. is that true?

yeah, everything stated in this is what my friend has noticed in his car and ive heard elsewhere. each speaker has its own amp, and its not too difficult to put in an aftermarket headunit.

also, i have heard, like mentioned, that bose speakers run at 1 ohm, wouldn't this affect the headunit's power?
