so i have 95 rms @ 4 ohms available from a zed glaudius w/ burr brown, should i go for a rainbow slc 265 or a rainbow cmx? the prices aren't that different so what do you think?

i hear that the cmx has better midbass and it's tweeters are much better (i think someone said they were the same ones used in a higher end rainbow set a couple years ago...)

6spdcoupe- could use your expertise on this one

thanks

The CMX 265 uses the CAL 25 Titanium which is an upgrade from the CAL 2045 used in the Sound Line (SLC) component sets. The price difference of the tweeters alone is $126.

hey Lukas i didn't expect to bump into you here, did you get my email?

and thanks, as i asked in my email, which of these would sound better with the gladius?

thanks again

Aside from the different parts used, theres also different sound characteristics. Metal cone/hard dome tweet Vs paper cone/soft dome tweet. Although the CMX is a "higher line" the sound isnt for all. In an overall view it is a better built-higher end product, but a totally different sounding set.

Either set will take that power and will perform quite well.

cmx's more bright and in your face compared to the slc's which are laid back. Cmx i think have higher power handling. I say cmx, but i prefer more in your face stuff.

How would you describe the sound differance? What's better for classic rock and alt country?

we cant tell you what your ears like.
Mike
6spd said a totally different sound and I was hoping for an explanation of the difference not just a smart *** response and I have been told some speakers are better for rock some better for rap or whatever Thank you

not a smart *** responce, i was stating peoples ears tend to like different sounds, example i like a more aggressive, ultra clear bright sound normally a factor of hard domes made of metals. Where as some people tend to like laid back natural sounding soft domes made of silks cottons and other fabrics. Yes there are some types of speakers better for certain types of music due to how they're made but i believe mostly it has to do to your preferences. Ne ways i listen to rock and feel a lil more aggressive set does the trick nicely. SO if you like rock id say cmx since hard dome. However that doesnt mean slc wont do it nicely either. it all preference.

The CMX are probably brighter than the SLC's, however it's not really an "in your face" kind of sound. Think of it as soft titanium. I'm throwing 125 watts to my CMX and they are awesome.. extremely good reproduction of music, awesome presence of the midbass, and a tweeter that is loud, but does not seem to fatigue the ear any bit. The CMX is overall a better set, but like Don said, it depends on what sound you want.

well there arent really any in your face rainbows but it prob a more aggressive from most of their other products. So you like them alot? i might downgrade from germs to cmx seem to fit budget and seem to have exactly what i want.

Mike

Yeah I like 'em. Big upgrade compared to my D361's anyway. You can tell it's metal, but it won't hurt. I'm pretty impressed by how everything sounds.
