86 Camaro. Need some help

Hi

I'm buying an 86 Camaro for a CHEAP price, (450 bucks, runs and drives good!), but theres no sterio in it at all......it had one before, but part of the reason its so cheap is that i told the guy he can keep the head unit (old JVC) and knock off a hundred bucks (origionally was asking 550).

Anyway, I'm saving my money for a V8/6 speed swap (v6/5speed now), so I dont have much money to spend. I've looked around this forum as well as some other forums, and although i've seen some 'help me build a system on a budget' threads, I know that technology and prices change constantly, so a thread from a year, or even 3 months ago, probably isnt going to be the best I could get for my money.

I'm willing to spend between 500 and 600 dollars, preferably closer to 500 though.

Although i've read the car sterio cookbook (by mark rumreich), and browsed the forums and read site and stuff, I still am unsure about channels, bridging, ohms, etc., so i'm looking for suggestions as to what I should buy....

I want a set of components (Infinity I've heard is good, right?) for the front, a decent head unit (Alpine? Pioneer?), and 1 or 2 subwoofers. Not looking for something thats gonna make me deaf, just want some decent sound quality and clarity at higher volumes (not all distorted and stuff)

If you could provide links to sites that have good prices on the items, that would be awsome too. I'd prefer to buy from one or two places, not 4 or 5, just cause i'd rather not have to deal with lots of different stores...makes it easier....

Thanks alot,

-Chris

I plan on just building a box like this.....

Seems to work with all the third gen's quite well i guess......fairly simple too.....

I dont really have any ideas to help you out with the system, but i do have some advice. I use to have an 86 camaro( which i fn loved). If you ever get an exaust leak make sure that you get it fixed ASAP. I didnt and it cought on fire and is now totally trashed, and nothing but a big paper weight. Just thought that i would let you know. I have pics of before it got burnt in my profile, will post pic of it burnt if still on comp.

i used 2 own a 91 camaro... that site you posted a link from... thirdgen.org ... helped me out a lot... don't go for 4x6's in the dash... get a set of kick panels made for the car... and ditch the rear 6x9's... a guy from the thirdgen site built the kicks for me... you might still be able to buy some, his username was DJ Sexay do a search on the site and see if you can dig up something... amp them, and with the limited trunk space, you can fit a dual 12 box in the well of the trunk, or do a single 12 box on one side... get it built for the well though... also do NOT screw amps down to that flat trunk spot in the back... the gas tank is directly beneath it... like ¾"-1" below it... people screw throught it all the time... be careful

i've had the integra for almost 2 years... haven't had a problem with it... great gas mileage... more reliability... better car all around... and actually a lil faster than the v6 that the camaro had... the camaro... in the year i had it... rebuilt transmission... replaced hinges on BOTH doors... replaced power window motor... exhaust leak... and many many other expensive things under the hood... the camaro only had 140,000 and had that many problems... the integra has 180,000 and still running the stock engine and ****** and is still running great for me...
