8" system

I've only dealt with 10's and 12's in my time so my question is.. If I get 4 of the 8" Assassins will I still have some low bass or is it all going to be mid to high?

So.. shall I go with 4 then? And also.. What's my best route.. ported or sealed? Like I said, I'd like it to sound like I have 12's..

I've also been pondering an 8" sub or 2. From what I've gathered the Assassins are great for the price. You'll most likely want a ported enclosure to get the output you are looking for. I believe they recommend 0.6 per driver tuned to 40hz.

Also they state a recommended wattage of atleast 150 per driver, 350 rms. I'm willing to bet they'll handle more than rms. In other words, you might want to get a higher powered amp. But I'm sure it's possible to work with what you have.

If you want it to sound like you have 12s, you should probably go get some 12s.

If you really want to stick with 8s (and especially if you want 4 of them), you should certainly get a new amp. I'm powering each of my rli-8s with ~350w rms in a sealed box (i have a pair of them), and by no means does it sound like I have 12s in my car...obviously the sealed vs. ported thing applies here, but my point was mainly about the power

What do 12's "sound" like anyway? Virtually every system Ive had people have said "wow that sounds like 12's (or 15's, or 18's etc)".... they never get it right.... seems nobody really knows what 12's or 15's are suppose to sound like these days anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you are building a system to impress other people, meh. That's a bad idea to design a systme around, you'll be bored with the results much too soon. Build it to perform the way you want. If you want the deep output of 12's, Id suggest buying 12's, not buying 8's then trying to convince yourself and your friends that they play as low as 12'.
