7" woofer

so i had a party the other night, had quite afew people over and all. you know, the normal get together;

anyway, so we had the home theatre setup pumpin tunes all night, and i've got acouple pairs of bose loudspeakers setup(i know bose isn't the best:banghead: ) and a 7" woofer for the surround sound; well some idiot came an turned up the vol. way too loud and blew the sub, speaks still work but the sub makes a rattling noise when it plays, so i figure its blown. i took it out and there seems to be nothing wrong so i assume ints something on the inside

at any rate, i'm looking to get another woofer for the ht setup that i cold just throw into the box that the previous 7" was in. my reciever says it puts out 200 watts, but thats to the loudspeakers as well so i'm not sure how many watts the subs getting, i would guess somewhere around 100.

but what kind of sub would u guys suggest me getting? and the box is 1.2 cubes w/ 2 aeroports that are 2"x10" heres some pics of what i'm dealin w/

Is your sub active? Or is it passive? Because it looked like there was a lot of stuff inside of the box for it to be passive...

i'm not sure what passive or active means, but yes there is abunch of stuff inside, like a miniamp i think? theres places to connect speakers, rca line in input, and volume and frequency knob on the back plate

Active means there is an amp in the 'box' passive means an external amp powers the sub...

So, since you power it with an RCA it is active, meaning the amp in the box powers the sub. So the receiver produces no wattage for the sub.

So, the sub really shouldn't of blown because there is usually protection circuits in the active amp....

hmm that is a polk? whsat measurement is 7? the hole or the entire sub? i dont remember a 7 inch polk

The neodymium magnet should be pretty self-shielding.

That box is actually entirely too large for the TB... it will have an awful lot of slam in the 35-40hz region with that box size and tuning but it might be a bit sloppy...

The AA poly 6.5" actually does a pretty good job in that 1.2 cuft @35hz box assuming those posted t/s are accurate... it is a slightly EBS alignment but this should yield a slightly more laidback, less forward sound... You will also get considerably more output out of the AA poly except for the 32-40hz range where the TB will peak.

The AA poly mid has a bit of lead slap though there is a nice thread telling you how to fix this problem.

On the other hand if you can drop the enclosure size to .8-.9 cuft and increase the ports to 2x20" or 2x17" respectively you will have significantly more extension if you get the TB.
