6x9 or 6.5?

Im looking to upgrade my front speakers in my 2005 jeep grand cherokee. The factory opening is a 6x9 but because of the lack of depth there are few options. Ive looked into replacing them with some 6.5s but im not sure what to go with. I have a Rockford Fosgate p400.4 to power whatever i decide to get. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, ive read that some people would rather have the bigger speaker. Do you recommend anything particular?

unless u trying to spend lots of $ on a 6x9 comp set or something special just get what ever looks good and has good reviews and has proper mount depth for your door.. i'll look around but 1 shocking brand i'll through out is lanzar make pretty good sounding speakers, other guy here (with 4 18's cracked his windshield so big system) said he thinks some of their subs sound about like american bass, i got some new speakers and don't love them had lanzars yrs ago sounded better they like $28 just saying.. but i'll look around, how much u wanta spend

u got rockford amp heres rockford speakers, we used to call these coincidal drivers

I think im gonna try and replace them with some kind of component set. Ive replaced the factory ones with some kickers a few months back and want something a little better. My dash has a spot of some 3.5 and i might try to mount some tweeters there.

my grandprix has about 3" maybe more just check crutchfield to show u what will fit your car and look at the depth on those speakers so u will know how deep u can go.. look at ct sound meso comps..

Is there a gap between the front of the speaker and the grill? If so, you can make a baffle to give you some more mounting depth

There might be a tiny bit of room. Im not to sure.

if its less than half of an inch, not really worth it. Well, even a quarter inch is a quarter inch and might open up many possibilities for other speakers

Right. It seems like a lot more 6.5 inch speakers will fit in there than 6x9s. I replaced the factory ones with kickers but want something more to keep up with the subs.

the 6x9s will offer more midbass from the cone area alone, but youre gonna find far better engineered 6.5s as theyre a more common speaker size. You lookin for coaxes or components? I dont remember if your car has stock tweets

6x9s are good for mid bass and that's it. Not a 2 way component or coax.

If you can fit a smaller coax somewhere else, like a 3.5 they will do well. But you have to have a way to low pass them under 400hz.
