i hate to keep bringing this up its just have i have the choice between two. these are first gen s10 blazers such as the one in audioholics sig i can get a four door or a two door i am going to be competing in crappy meca events...would like to get in the 150

The 4 door having more space after being walled off is completely irrelevant.
4 doors are louder in street style applications as well.

Don't believe me? Look at all the loud street explorers/blazers in all the competition organizations. All of them are 4 doors. Think this is purely coincidence?
I dont follow SPL that much, certainly less than you, but I remember back in 'the old days' when I did more, people like Mark Fakuda seemed to think the 2-door was louder. *shrug*

I dont believe that the popularity of 4-doors today necessarily means they are inately louder. I think, especially for competitors, the idea of more cargo room for equipment is very inviting. You say this factor is irrelevent, but you dont say why you feel that is. Nor do you explain why you think 4-doors are louder.

one of my customers has 2 blazers a 4 door 89 and a 2 door 88 all exact same equipment in a street app and the 2 door is louder by nearly 3 db go figure
well then thats good to know...im so confused as to which one to buy its not like im competing for a state title i just wanted to make sure igot the with the most potention plus i like the 2dr look a little better anyways.

Okay, lets sum the thread up because I don't think that some people are getting it.

In a street application, where the box is in the cargo area, 4 door SUV's TEND to be louder because they generally have a larger cargo area.

There are more physics to it than just "less air to pressurize." The 4 door explorers aren't too far away from doing the same scores I can with minimal equipment, yet my truck is much smaller. The shape of the vehicle makes a HUGE difference. Vehicles that are boxy tend to work good for SPL; sound pressure likes flat panels.

Do you plan on removing the back seat or just using the cargo area?

SPL doesn't have to make a damned bit of sense.

What happens, happens.

Logic would say that my truck would kill in db drag because of a tiny cargo area, but guess what, my truck is the WORST db drag vehicle I have ever seen or tested. It completely falls on its face when it's sealed up. I gain 7 db just by opening the door.

My truck is quieter on the dash than a TRUNK CAR, with the same power and equipment. Granted my truck is WAY louder outlaw than the trunk car, but I think that's a different topic all together.

Just because a vehicle has less cabin to pressurize doesn't make it louder. Hell, looks at pandas. They have WAY more space than a crx yet they are 3+ db louder with the same equipment. The same goes for 4 door suv's versus 2 doors. A panda with 2 10's in the cargo area is getting close to some of our streetmax cars with a wall and 4 subs.

It has to do with the acoustics/design of the vehicle itself, not so much the equipment. That's why some vehicles are just naturally louder than others.

Like I said before, 1st gens I'm not too sure about. I'm sure with some work/testing the 4 door could be on par with the 2 door.

However, I know with a high degree of certainty that 2nd gen 4 door blazers are louder than 2 doors, even with the same equipment.

excellent and very correct answer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

of that I am absolutely certain as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Your description of the readings getting louder when you open the door likely has to do with 1) a bandpass effect occuring, and 2) the mic being placed near the door/window, increasing local pressure due to air displacement at the mic (like placing a mic inside a port almost). Im not saying your conclusions are wrong, just that I think you are attributing a little more voodoo to the situation than is necessary. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
