Hi I want to buy a 5 channel amp its rated at a total power of 400w RMS 4x50 and 1x200

Its a hifonics Z8000, still haven´t bought it.

The questions is that the guy at my local car audio shop told me that 8 awg will be fine for up to 600 watts RMS, but searching in the net, I found that they only hold up to 350 watts RMS, what gauge should I use???help!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

8AWG should be fine, However if you have a little bit extra might as well go with the 4AWG. Too much is never enough! Besides if you plan on upgrading at all later on you will need it and it will save you time and money.

really it depends on the amp. the max current draw of 8awg wire is 65 amps. so if your amp's max draw is more than that, run 4awg. however you might as well run 4 anyway b/c you'll probably end up upgrading

thanks, didn´t know that 65 amps was the max current draw for 8 awg, yeah you are right prolly. later I will get a better system, so I will choose 4 awg
