40th Birthday present

Also, Hispls, if this doesn't sound good it will be entirely your fault!J/k
Can't put any of this on me at this point. You should be starting to get a feel for what those curves you see on your software actually sound like with music. One hump camel sounds powerful but may be a little anemic on certain tracks, two hump camel sounds just awful (IMO), and wide and flat is going to just amaze you with every track you throw at it. As you say, you sacrifice to get it, and with some subs you'd need to sacrifice too much to get there. Luckily the JL subs are designed more like studio monitor/home woofers and usually model quite well tuned low (as we've seen... provided you have enough airspace).

Side note:Grew up in northern Pennsylvania Allegheny mountains where from age 8 to 16 helped grandpa in a sugarshack nestled in his prized maple stand...good times.
Good times. I'm in the maple business but we stopped making syrup this year. The point where you hit economies of scale to make it worthwhile is really huge these days. I'm sourcing mine from friends who make enough to sell by the barrel which has the bonus of I'm not risking losing my arse on a poor harvest year, I'm not stuck with a portion of my crop that's funky tasting late season, and I can be very selective about what I'll take.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that box was in a pickup before and now it's in a van? Or it was always in a van and we just never saw any pics besides the front? Either way you have an awful lot of space with which to work if you need louder.

Thanks to the time you've invested, I am getting a good general grasp of the variables involved & how they respond to changes. I feel Developing a relatively solid foundation in enclosure manipulation using entry level equipment provides me the luxury of exploring fringe ideas without the worry of losing much monetarily.

I was also just offered a deal with the shop I once worked for (& where this equip came from) to use their overstock hardware at a great price. Stuff like a XXX 15 to type S 15's & some JL power. Those are just what was mentioned in a quick conversation so I need to see just exactly what all else is available woofer & component wise.

It's always been in the van as a console. The pics in the beginning of post on the stainless table was right after initial completion. I'll put up a couple more to give you a better idea.

Sorry to hear about the decision to stop harvesting your own syrup. I'm guessing that's a part you may have enjoyed? But its understandable economically & sounds like your current business alignment is a win/win.

What brand are you selling under? Would like to give it a go on a big Sunday morning breakfast.

Not too impressed with soundstream woofers. XXX is a fairly decent 4hp clone but the ones I've seen locally didn't get loud until they were rebuilt with better softparts. I'd say it would be fun to experiment with SPL builds but you'd need a lot of power to really make using 4" coil sub worthwhile. Still though having the option to audition more gear would be fun and it seems your handy enough with a saw to build boxes for experimenting.

I sort of miss the harvest, but it's pretty relentless work. A few days out in 0 degrees on snowshoes is fun... until you sink in up to your neck... until you're in week 4.

Boiling early season is exciting. the steam smells delicious and feels nice in the cold and most of your woodpile is still close to the door.... week 5 the sap is milky, the "syrup" smells like rancid root beer, and it's 70 degrees out during the day but you can't wear shorts or short sleeves or you'll get third degree burns trying to throw wood in the arch. You get a couple week's worth of 12 hour boiling days (plus time in the woods) in a row and you're absolutely burned out, or you get 5 days too warm or too cold for sap to run good and you're panicking that you'll lose your arse on the season's harvest. All around it has its ups and downs. Yeah, I miss it and if I didn't need to make money on it I'd probably enjoy boiling for a couple few weeks in the spring, but doing it to make money is tricky, takes a huge amount of capital investment and will be a grind.

Anyway, yeah, the business took on a life of its own we mostly sell just granulated/powdered maple sugar now only keeping syrup in retail sizes since we have to have syrup on hand to make sugar. A&A Maple, we sell mostly on Amazon but a bit on ebay and etsy too. If you want something PM me and we can dodge seller fees and save you some money.

Going to take baby steps here. Have another 500 watts to trickle in & a few subs to try b4 getting new stuff from the shops offer.

Got 1.5cu/ft in each wing that I can seal off.

Trying to decide if I should just use 1 side with a single 10w3v3 or use both sides with a pair of 12w0's..

with both options being ported, yet sealed off/seperated from main chamber.

Retuning main chamber for the loss of 1.5 or 3cu/ft.

Hard to imagine how each modeling curve for the different pairs will stack upon each other.

Can tune both pairs to same rough freq, or bring one tune in while the other falls off.

Going to have to just mount them and give it a listen.

Am having fun & learning at the same time.
