40th Birthday present

Hi guys, newb here.

I built this from my wife's gifts.

Would love some feedback.

Wish I found this place before the enclosure build.

Test

Box is 3.9 cu/ft

Slot tuned to 31hz

35sq inches of port area.

I crowded the subs so they were both almost under the length of the port.

Also in my naive wisdom, I put a rake on the box in hopes that I'd reduce standing waves under the enclosure by helping them to propagate rearward. Added a couple little slits for fresh air to replenish as it's closed off on 3 sides.

Constructive opinions requested.

Is it too close to the floor?

How will that proximity effect things

Thx Hertz Mafia, I've been doing alot of reading lately, you're good people.

Thx guys.

Otherwise, looks like clean work. I used to down fire back in the day but it seems to have largely fallen out of popularity lately.
Due to trendy-ness or lack of efficiency?

I wonder because I realize I'm not dealing with much here output wise, so I tried to preserve any & all acoustical energy that I could.

Probably trendyness since many people crowd their subs firing into a wall or hatch with good results.... though some like to keep port and sub(s) on the same face of the box which can get complicated downfiring. Also possibly due to weight of modern subs. A pair of 80 pound subs loaded up into a double layer 3/4" MDF box would be difficult to load in and out of a vehicle with subs mounted.

Reckon these were ok to use ?
Brass/copper may tarnish so it's a tradeoff of better conductivity or resisting the elements over time vs using stainless bolts and gold plated lugs. For what you're doing that should be plenty adequate though and looks like they'll be neat and secure.

Thank u sir.Stainless & gold next time I upgrade, got it.
I said it's a tradeoff. What you have now will likely conduct better, but will tarnish eventually. Keep an eye on it, if they start looking dull pull apart and touch it up shiny with some emery paper.

I put foam strips under the amps hoping the vibe won't kill them.
Get that box playing loud and press your forehead to the amp and you will know how much it is vibrating. Foam strips are doing little or nothing I'll wager. It's best to never mount amps to a box, but you may well get away with it for years. Also at your power level I don't think port area is going to be a problem.
