40hz box playing 35hz?

you might hurt your sub big time, it all depends on how strong your sub is i guess you could say in simple terms, and they are prolly playing it full tilt with a subsonic filter on, so you dont notice it, and it actually doesnt reach 39hz

I dont have a adjustable ssf but in my 2cu.ft box tuned to 33hz I can play a 20hz

tun and the sub is fine ?

Tune it lower. This is imp. esp if you are already putting the recommended or higher power to the sub. Of course, if you are putting 200W on a 2000W sub I wouldn't worry about damaging the sub.

The SPL (if thats what you are going for) loss at the upper end in a diff. box won't be near as noticeable as the drop on the lower end if you keep this design.

you might cause the sub to reach mechanical limits which may damage it
Really doubtful with any sub. At 35hz, the port will still be functional at controlling cone motion. It won't be as in control as it was at tuning but cone movement will still be significantly reduced. I have a ghetto *** sub with really soft suspension that can play 25hz full tilt in an enclosure tuned to 32hz and it's cone is still very controlled.

Depends on what sub to...some like playing below tuning some peak off pretty nasty.....and are u referring to SPLBEAST's 48hz box playin Jeezy the Snowman in his vid....it really plays low pretty decently...but he tore his surround...to much watts..hehe...but give it a shot

Look at Prochobo's box tuned to 40hz and playin Hypnotize in his vid nicely

A nice stiff suspension will help keep things under control as most of the pressure in the enclosure has been lost when you start heading too far below tuning. Output will start to drop off as well but not all subs will be completely useless below tuning.
