4 soundstream reference series sub or 2 9500's?

We've had nothing but problems with MTX drivers on my team. Plus they sound like azz for SQ ..

The cones on them are REALLY filmsey and crack easy, so be forewarned. The compairison you are making though is uselss....I mean extra-ordinarly uselses since you didnt provide system goals, explain your planned setup, or what kinda power your going to present the drivers.

The reason it's stupid for most cars is b/c you're completly sealing off about 80% of the SPL b/c of 1) the box taking up 90% of the trunk and 2) you have the backseat and depending on the car you can have a nice metal plate to go through. If you want to do 4 12"s then do them ported with as mentioned, the ports firing into the cabin. That could look sweet but in all fairness 2 solid 12"s like RL-p's would be a good choice. Hell even Type r's would be a good choice.

well the only reason I say 4, is b/c thats what the shop suggested. my backseat folds down btw, i dont know if that helps or not. yeah i have heard that mtx's crack and thats why im a lil nervous about competeing with them. My plans are for a show car, but to attend some small sound comps. not any serious ones, just some for the fun of it. right now I have one modded 1501D and will prob. get another one. thanks

go with the 2 12"s, one there is in no way you have enough space in the trunk for that size of a box, i have a sunfire, same thing as a cavy, with 1 10" 9500 running off of 1501bd i have enough output to satisfy my needs, but since you are thinking of competing you can prolly squeeze a 4^3 box in the trunk with your subs facing into the cab, along with the port into the cab, just remember to fold down your rear seat, O| |O

i went to another shop today and he suggested either 1 stroker, or 1 juggernaut, or 2 mmats p3.0's. are the 3.0's louder that the mtx 9500's?

The juggernauts are louder, yes. But the 3.0's are there lower end sq sounding sub that gets loud, but not louder than the 9500's. I had 4 12" 9500's in a 1985 cutlass that I ran shows about 2 years ago and did a certified 156.4 on the tl. I had them in a pretty big box that my buddy did for me and cat remember the cubes, but took whole trunk up. Matter of fact it was built in to my trunk. Then had the rear deck taken out and was made up of 3/4 mdf for the port. Was insanely loud and was very clear. I personally thought the sq wasnt all that bad on them, but when you get passed 150's, then who cares really. Mid 140's sounded off the chain though. I would do 2 9500's off 2 1501's. That would sound very good. I just dont think you have the room to do 4 of those 12's in a cavy.

They suggested 4 subs because they probably want a lil $$ from a noob.
