Go for what you know I guess. 8 ohms is not a horrible thing.I guess I'll just see how my amp likes 2 ohms then....
Keep an eye on it though. Almost all 4 ohm stable amps will run @ 2 ohms mono for a while. Just be careful.I'm running it at 2 ohm right now without any problems....

2 ohm non bridged is the same as 4 ohm mono. You're running 2 ohm mono which is equivalent to 1 ohm stereo. There is nothing you could have calculated that will make the amp put out half power @ 2 ohms mono. Turning a gain down will not change anything. As stated earlier, just be careful and keep an eye on it. Touch it to see if it's getting real hot. If the amp owner's manual does not say it is 2 ohm mono stable then it is NOT made to be pushed really hard at that load.it is stable at 2 ohm non bridged... besides, if I calculated it right, I'm only using it at half power at 2 ohms anyways
All that means is your gain is set correctly. It doesn't change the fact that you're showing your amp a 2ohm mono load. If you're careful you probably won't hurt the amp. If you're not you could thermally damage and eventually kill your amp. Just stay cool and it'll be fine.I was going by a DMM.....
gain is not at full tilt.

it get's pretty hot, but not hot enough to burn me, just slightly uncomfortable to touch, my kicker gets hotter...All that means is your gain is set correctly. planning on ebaying my 268 for the cash to get either a BXI 1206D or a similar amp...There was another person on here that had a Lanzar Vibe 286 power 2 P2 D2s and it would shut off after about a month, he was going to buy my amp until I told him what he was doing wrong with wiring, now he's bump really well with them at a 4 ohm load to each channel.
Some amps just run hotter than others. It all has to do with the heatsink design that makes one amp hotter to the touch. The real question is is the amp ALOT hotter than it was when you were running it at 4 ohms.??it get's pretty hot, but not hot enough to burn me, just slightly uncomfortable to touch, my kicker gets hotter...
