4 idmax 12s or 4 diamond d9s

If you want a nice system with great SQ/SQL, spend less time worrying about the relatively subtle differences betwen those subs, and more time researching/building/fine-tuning the install. Seems silly to me people get so carried away worrying about which subs will sound 'better' and yet concern themselves very little with getting the install just right (not saying you are doing this tiger). There's much more to be won/lost in terms of SQ and output in the install than there is between those two subs. That goes double for the amplifiers.

Like Punk said, which sub will blow at X number of watts really is a non issue. If you were comparing a 100watt sub and a 1600 watt sub, yes Id place a bet the 1600 watt sub has more potential. But when you are comparing such closely related specs, which melts down first really doesn't need to factor in. Maybe one sub blows quicker, but due to higher efficiency is also producing more output than the other can when it blew. More output, fewer watts to buy, sounds like a win-win situation. Im not saying the IDMax is more efficient, I dont know. But I am saying a discussion like this shouldn't ignore that possibility. And Im just assuming you are talking about thermal power handling alone, as mechanical power handling is closely dictated by the enclosure.

oh AH i know this. and I didn't want this to turn into this type of thread. One thing you don't have to worry about is me researching the install. This system is for quite a few months from now and I will be working on the install A LOT. I think im gonna go with midbass in the doors and mid/highs in the kick and a mid and 2 highs in the dash. I will prolly spend 2-3 weeks trying to get imaging right. Install is what Im most concerned about.

hope this makes sense and I didn't misspell too bad as Im drunk as shit.

Sounds like a good plan.

Oh... I like the plan for the stereo too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

thanks. If my max budget for a midbass and mid and tweet is 2k what do you think I should get? i was thinking seas lotus comp set plus a seas lotus 7 in speaker for the door. what u think?

gonna be hard to do that, maybe I can drive to h-town and try them out. all I ask is good mid bass, clean vocals and please by god NO HARSH tweeter. I can even ride in my old truck that my dad has now becuase it has a infinity kappa set in the kicks and the tweet kills me. aight im off to be goodnight.

Dynaudio make some extremely nice drivers as well. Check em out. Pro Audio type of stuff. Back in the 80's and early 90's when there weren't very many high end components in car audio at the time our shop used to buy Dynaudio drivers and install them in cars with our own crossover systems. They are sweet. They ain't cheap either.

I can only give you my idmax experience.

I have been running 4 12 IDMAX D4's for 3 years now. They are ported to ID specs and are running about 750 watts a piece off a US AMPS DE-3000(@2ohm load).

They hit around 149db and sound really clean, tight, and smooth.

Not debating....just giving you my experience to help you decide.
