4 guage fuse size

hey guys. I am about to buy an eD Nine.1 amplifier to power my RE Audio SX sub. I just bought a 150 amp anl fuse for my car. I have 4 guage wire and was wondering if this is going to be a problem? All the charts i see say its gonna be a problem, but all the guys i talk to say it'll be fine. What do you guys think? Thanks

im running 4ga with a 150anl thats 15feet long (main power wire) to my hifonics bx1500d and alpine speaker amp. no problems here. but then, its only been 1 day so far *knocks on wood*

I can't see it being a problem unless you have a ~20' wire.

well i dont have ~20 ft wire...i have EXACTLY 20 ft wire lol. I think i can probably cut off about 3-4 ft though. Do you guys think this would be fine?

i have decided to get 1/0 guage wire. I have been looking at the 1/0 wiring at weldingsupply.com as it seems to be the cheapest. Is this quality wire for car audio? Also..i hear that 2 guage welding wire = 1/0 guage car audio wire? IS that true? Thanks guys!

The actual size of the wire is what determines the ga. IIRC welding wire typically has a thicker jacket which would make the final diameter of the welding cable larger than that of a similar sized car stereo specific wire. Welding wire will typically have fewer strands within the cable and as a resut will be less flexible than the best car audio specific cable. If that doesn't matter to you, then welding wire will work fine.

That's what I use to think too. I went down to my local welding shop last week and checked it out. They had boxes of 50foot lengths, bought some 4ga for $27 (just over $.50 a foot, whereas the local audio store wanted $1.50 a foot). Its every bit as finely stranded as other 4ga audio cable I have around, the main difference is the jacket.... thinner actually. It feels more ruber based whereas all three types of 'audio' power cable I have here feel more plastic based. Makes for very flexible stuff, Im quite impressed... especially for the price. only downside I see is the color, just black, which might be a problem for someone wanting to show off their wires. *shrug* I'll be buying my 1/0awg there in the next few weeks as well.

I believe the confusion with 'welding cable' comes form there being different types. You want the type used for running to the stinger, because its made fine stranded so its easy to carry/manuever while working/welding. Any decent welding shop should stock it.

I have never ordered from weldingsupply.com, so I cannot say if its the same. You should be able to find out what the strand count is before ordering. And if you are at all worries, do as I suggested above and hit up your local welding supply house.

has anyone ordered from weldingsupply.com? How flexible is their 1/0 guage welding wire and is it as good as the car audio wire you can buy? If you guys have any suggestions im looking for around 25 ft of 1/0 guage wire for under $45. Thanks guys
