4 gauge pulling 160A ?

Most amps i've saw at most only take 4 gauge wiring, even my little 300w amp does. But im looking at the JBL GTO-14001 it has 4x 40A fuses but only takes 4 gauge wiring. How are you going to be able to pull 160A through 4 gauge, isnt that limiting the amps performance?

Well i've already got a run of 4 gauge but that wont be able to take that JBL amp and a 300w speaker amp. So i think i will just use the 4 gauge for my speaker amp then a new run of 0 gauge straight the the JBL. Instead of buying a distro block and stripping my 4 gauge out aswell.

Is this what you mean?

Phonocar 0AWG Power Cable Reducer

i believe 4awg at lengths of 15 - 20 is good for around 150amps, so it should be fine. 150 amp fuse at the battery should good. any voltage drop from wire resistance will be minimal. if you blow the main battery fuse with both amps running, then its time to upgrade the wire, but i doubt that will be the case.

Right on

Your amp is rated up to 1500 watts. 160 amps is anywhere from 2000 to 2300 watts, depending on your voltage. Lesson? Fuse ratings can (pretty much) guarantee your max current draw on an amplifier (it wont surpass that current pull), but its not a guarantee it will pull that amount of power continuously. 4ga would probably be fine, 2ga would definitely be fine, 0ga is absolutely overkill and not necessary.

^ correct. it will take a 320 amps for 3secs or a dead short to blow the fuses. 160amps over a 15' run would be the max i would do.

i personally would run 0 to a dist block if you plan on keeping the car cause its better to run wire 1 time....
