not always, there is a helpful article in the ever popular adire audio pages about DUMAX and such and how not all subs have the ability to reach their Xmax, so normally you can't use Xmax to determine the difference between spl of 2 different drivers because some companies define and measure xmax differently, but when you are comparing 2 subs of the same series you can use xmax because you know it was defined the same... read this article about the over-roll technowledgy of the w7 it helps.... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=36

Im an SPL competitor...XMAX is not something I look at when picking a driver. Not at all.

You can have any high excursion 15-18 inch driver you want. And I'll take 2 10s, We will see who will be louder man. I have a Termlab right here. Acutally do you want to bet that I have 1 12" sitting right here that will be louder than your current system (4 10s and 1 13) and get louder at a lower frequency.

Put some money on it PLEASE.

also another interesting point is that when adire did their "dumax" verification for the xmax of the w7 , they came up with a higher xmax than jl listed

aight with statements like these i'm just gunna wait for someone else with half a brain to say something chevy here says he can beat any 18 with 2 tens,

yet he can make a smaller sub (a 12) beat 4 10's and a 13... well i would love to know the source of mystical energy in your box building technique that makes your sub's defy the laws of physics

dude...you need to get your head out of the science books, and actually get out into the real world. The box TOTALLY changes the way a driver will act. So you are telling me 1 15" driver in a sealed box...will be louder than 2 10" drivers in a ported box...

Same drivers.

I seriously will go make a video now. I will go get the termlab out. I have 2 of the same driver here...

1 12" vs 1 15"

Same power, same brand, same model

Different box. both boxes would be constructed with equal quality.

I could get the 12" louder...WAY louder. On the same hand I could get the 15" louder than the 12" its all in the box.

I could take a Pyramid Hyper Pro and stomp some kid with a JL W7 12" with his nifty JL prefab box.

that depends on the driver, yes there are several drivers where the 10's would win in the senario you mentioned... the w6 isn't one of them and...

hey dude, you should go up to bragg pawn... check out their digital designs...
trust me... you get a single 12" DD 9512 and it will be louder than anything you've heard here in fayetteville...

the sub will only be louder if it has the right amp/box
