4 12" ID MAX's VS 4 12" Alpine Type r's

Topic says it all. I have 4 of each woofer & was just wondering what should & would be louder. I am looking for SPL. I put the MAX's in but they dont fit in the holes I drilled out for the type r's. So I grabbed a ported pre-fab box i had laying around & hooked up 2 of the max's then 2 of the type r's at a seperate time & the type r's were louder. Is this true or should I just try drilling out the holes for the max's to fit or just make a whole new box for the max's?

Type r's can get pretty loud. If you only care about SPL then go with the r's.

If you want SPL go with type R... if you want good quality bass that still gets pretty loud go with IDMAX.

sorry I ask the question because I had 2 12" max's before & was metering 152's all day. So I just figured i would try 4 of them.

So are you for sure saying to stay with the r's????

I don't get why you would have either if you have 3000 watts at your disposal, and are worried about spl honestly. Why not just get a real spl woofer/s.

On what...? I had a pair of MAXs on 2000+ watts, and I would guess I was around 143db on termlab.

It was on a term lab with a modded fosgate bd1500.

What SPL woofers are you suggesting then???

most people would say DD, AQ, or DC. I haven't heard any of them personally....just FYI

Ya I was looking into the aq HDC3's would those be a better choice than the r's or the max's for SPL?

i would stick with the type r's only because normally if you are just trying to get loud you might push the woofer a little harder than normal. I think it would be a good idea to keep the max's in good condition even though you can buy recones.

Wait you only hit 143 with 2 12s an 2000+watts??? was your box like .5 cuft/sub sealed??? that sounds like a horrible score for what you had.
