4 10's in a 2007 Tahoe box design?

I just got 4 10 inch Pioneer Champion series subs for really cheap at a pawnshop and already have a 1000w rms amp that I could use with them. An installer told me that since the Tahoe is "open cabin" I should get a box built with the subs facing up and the tuned port facing towards the trunk. He swears that would sound better than the subs and port facing back with 4 10's. He said something about tuning to 35Hz with a "aero port" would be best. What do you guys who know about this design stuff think? Will that really sound better than a regular method of facing it all back to the trunk? Think 4 10s with 1000w rms will get loud in a big suv like a Tahoe?

If your installer speaks from actual experience in doing that design in that particular vehicle or similar, I say go for it. Those championship subs are not the best but neither the worse around. With four of them in the RIGHT box with the right amp adjusted correctly and a clean input signal they should sound pretty darn good and plenty of bass in any full size SUV.

The first thing I suggest you do is the BIG THREE upgrade to your electrical wiring or have it done if you have any doubt on doing it.

for over all loudness sub up and port back the best way to go in a SUV. Ask any every day competitor and 8 of 10 will say do subs up and port back. i have a blazer and have tried all diff ways and sub up port back has been louder then all

here we call the Pioneer Champion series the flea market surprise. A bunch of the flea market vendors had them and guys figured out in the right box they hit pretty hard and sound good for cheap. They all seem to have pretty large ported boxes, but certainly have heard them hit hard.

yup they can hit low end pretty well, but not very durable and they make a lot of cone noise when hitting so sound quality is not that great in an open cabin application. They also seem to refuse to hit any notes above 60 hz regardless of enclosure design.

Maybe three 12 inch subs would be a better all round bass? I talked to another shop and thats what they said. So now I am a little confused lol
