They are Bulletproof, one of the best motors GM ever made. My GP has SC 3800 and I had a Bonnevile that had regular 3800 in it, series 1 and its still going at almost 200k

yeah, same thing the police told me when i got locked up. me and him talked about cars and he thought i had a 3.1 in my car. I told him i have a 3.8 and he got all excited like " ****, your lucky those are one of the best motors they made before they switched to that pos monte carlos 3.4"

The 3.4 in the Monte was definitely junk, had one myself. The 3800 series motors have always been a great mainstay for the normal cars. Its reliable and solid, makes ok power to at least keep the car going for daily driving. Its no race motor but it does the job for the everyday.

My regal gs has the sc 3800 in it. I run mine hard, with no problems. The only problems beside the intake gasket as silver said is the valve cover gaskets. The valve cover gaskets are the only things I've had to replace. I've had a few cars with them in it and they are solid motors IMO.

as long as its in a front wheel drive car, yes its a good motor.
I don't see what difference the engine's orientation would have anything to do with it (sideways as opposed to not)

My wife's work car ('05 Holden Commodore - if you don't know look it up) has the 3800 Series II in it and that car gets treated like a rented mule.

Seems to be holding up find tus far with 100K kilometers+ and counting. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ahhhhh, my girl has the v6 3.4 in her lumina. I wish it was the 3.8, but oh well. Have yet to have any major problems with it at 140,000 miles. Been taken care of though.
yeah, lumina's last forever with maintenance
