thinkin' I wanna do a 3 way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Current setup in my sig and I have 2 issues ATM, the memphis tweet is a little too harsh for my taste and, neither set has great midbass. (the pioneers will play lower before distorting though.) Plus i've just always wanted to run a good 3 way. Not really wanting to go active ATM because then I'll need another amp for rear fill (which I'd like to keep).

Does anyone know of a nice budget friendly (ofcourse I know it will cost either way) 3 way comp set that comes down to a final 2 ohms? 2 ohms will help me keep from having to bridge my amp but if all else fails I may just go ahead and bridge it. Saw a couple DLS 3 way comps on ebay, but have no experience with them. Liked the prices though.

Also was wondering if I could possibly add "midbass kit" of some sort to say my current pioneer 2 way set?

Sorry post so long.

looking for budget friendly 3 way comp set (preferably 2 ohms final)

wondering if i can simply add a midbass kit to my current pioneer comps and if so, how?

Rainbow and cdt both make some nice ones, also the old eclipse 3 ways are supposed to sound good and run at 2 ohms i think. For the money though why not just get some HAT clarus?

If you got a set of 2way componets that have the iption of rear fill i think you could add like a 8 or whatever and use it as your midbass. idk , but i would think this would work. most 3 ways are a 6.5 with a 3-4 in and a tweet though

thats what i was wondering, about simply adding a midbass to a 2 way set. How could I do this without going active? Is there a midbass addon kit that will passively keep the 2 way set from playing right along with the midbass?

Impedance varies with frequency. With the add-on mid bass, you run a passive crossover that splits the signal high/low. So the amp doesn't see more than one speaker load at a time. It will see 4 ohms nominal.

An add-on midbass is fine. But your install determines how much midbass you get, not the speaker. Bass requires airtight seals, all around, front and rear of the speaker basket.

Most 3-way kits use smaller midrange drivers so they can have higher tweeter crossover points. It takes special touches to build a 6.5 that is flat much above 5kHz, And they become more directional above 1KHz. Also, smaller drivers perform better in smaller enclosures and are easier to locate.

Pics of your existing speaker installs?

You could pick up a Alpine SPX-177R comp set with a SPX-17MB add on.
