well seeing how I am from Oklahoma, I would use some southern engineering in this case...I would cut a 3 inch hole and see how it goes from there, if it's too small either sand, file, or cut the hole slightly bigger until the pvc fits in pretty secure.

You could try to make the port longer, but there might be other reasons with the box won't extend lower, or even the sub. You'd have to reverse...
