3.5" Rear Speakers - Recommendations

Hi,

My car currently has two 4" speakers in the dash with two 3/4" tweeters, and 5.25" speakers in the doors. I want to round out the sound by adding some speakers in the rear, to add some depth, but not go to loud. I don't want to over power the front and the speakers will be sitting right behind you head, and running off the head unit.

The biggest speaker I can fit is a 3.5". I am really new to RMS, wattage, etc. So I have no idea were to begin. If anyone has some recommendations on speakers (with grills) it would be great! I would also prefer to stay under $35, if at all possible.

Also, should I put anything behind the speakers when I mount them?

Can I mount them upside down?

first off...what kind of car..year/model...

that would give us an idea of what speakers your looking for...

It's a '99 Porsche Boxster. I am going to mount them in the small cubbies behind each seat. They are really tiny, and won't take anything bigger than 3.5" (a 3" if they exist, would be better). I just need to know what to buy.

Thanks, I saw those.

The problem I have is that the space is about 6" wide, and 4" high. It is also diagonally oriented so I have about

.75" behind whatever panel I mount the speakers in. So I could probably do a 2.5", 3", 3.5", 4", or 4" x 6" speaker, but only if they are very thin.

Don't waste your time. Nothing you can do to keep them from screaming in your ear and they won't add anything to the sound other than interference cancellation.

It is just going to make things worse. Complete waste of money to put anything back there.

Hellotaxi and M5 are right... there are two problems here:

1) Rear speakers are an oem thing... unless you are going to send them a dedicated surround signal from a processor or at least put a delay on them, they will hurt the imaging and front sound stage more than they will help it.

2) The speakers are too small to be worthwhile... speakers as small as you are talking about tend to be very inefficient and lack extention... in plain English, you may as well staple a clock radio behind your head, that's what it will sound like.

When you get some more money, upgrade the speakers up front... a good set will fill that car with sound.
