3/4 gain before output

what would cause an amp to have to have the gain at 3/4 before you get sufficient output? could it be anything but the amp? My zx300.1 wasn't that way, but the POS xenon i got today (scammed) does... just wondering what would cause this... thanks

not sure. probably different input range. an amp with a 100mV to 2V input range fed from a 4V HU will probably sound loud at minimal gain unless you turn the HU down. an amp with a 100mV to 16V input range will sound quiet until the gain is turned up significantly.

i would not judge an amp poorly based upon the ability to accept a wide range of inputs.

kicker's input sensitivty is 125mV to 5V (with a high option for 250mV to 10V)

pg's input sensitivity is 200mV to 8V.

not sure if this is the issue or not. is there a lot of noise in the output? is the output insufficient? is there any issues other then "knob turned further then i want"?

make sure your sub control on the head unit is like +5 or +10, depending on how high it goes.

the output is insufficient.. i can make it that loud with my jbl 180.2 without the gain so high

well i talked to some ppl about their xenon's and they say that the input sensitivity is quite high therefore you have to crank the gain if you have 2v preouts like me... does this make sense?

you you have a DMM you can easily double check.
