3/0 Gauge wire for 240 AMP Alternator

I'm still on the wall about what size wire I need to run from my alternator to my batteries in the trunk. There will be a 240 AMP Mechman alternator up front and (2) 128 AH batteries in the trunk. Since 3/0 Gauge is good for up to 239 AMPS, I was gonna run 3/0 from the Alternator to the batteries in the trunk. Does anyone have an idea for a better way to do this or is this the best way?

The system will be running somewhere around 4,000 Watts RMS. Should there be fuses on each end of the wire? What size fuses are recommended for the wire? More than likely will be about a 15 foot run of 3/0 Gauge.
