2nd bat install

Do I need and isolator to run my second bat off of the alternator or can I just go from the alternator to the second bat. Also what size wire should I use. I will have the one batt for the car and the other batt (possibly 2) for the system. How should I run the wire and everything.

i kind of am in the same situation, running a wire from front batt to back batt...but for comps, need to have car off, so will this be possible? sorry to post jump, thought it was foolish to post another thread of same sort

so i wont kill off my alternator by running the second battery off of it. What about the positive from one battery to the alternator and then the alternator to the other battery there will be current right?

alt to under hood battery, under hood battery to back battery + to + and - to -
nah man...you do need an isolator if youre going to be running a competition with your car off because that will drain both batteries and you wont be able to start your car..get an isolator for the back battery...

about hooking it up...run 0ga from front battery + terminal to positive on back battery...then ground the - battery terminal to your chassis where the battery is...you can then run wires from the back battery to your amps etc...but put an isolator in the line if you are going to be running competitions with the car off...if you dont bump with your car off you will not need one:fro:

so you are saying running 2 batteries will die faster than 1..hmm interesting also best place to ground second battery is back up front...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

IDK....

Yes a smaller GROUND lead is better, BUT the best GROUND spot.... in most cars anyway (the most efficient even with the longer lead) I was told was the + of the front battery.

Helotaxi broke it down in a post, and I must say.... he knows his stuff, so i'd take his word for it.

here ye go!

lololol TOO FUNNY in what comp besides death match would you burp "that long"? i also worked at kinetik too..most street C, street max 3-4 cars have multiple runs of 0 ga. for both pos and negitive ..why? YOU wont get a better ground than the one up front in alot of cases. or are you going to say a car body has less resistance? in my old firebird (an original image dynamics team car(sq)) the amps were grounded to the front battery too.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif the amp i have now is too:wow: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif :wow:

http://audioforum.termpro.com/topic/22/4438/7.html look at some pics here wonder what all that wire is for?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif and in comp to honestly tell you the truth why would you run something that would limit you some powerwise? if i were to suggest to someone to get an isolator my only reason would be is if they did ALOT of timed engine off listening. why timed? what effect would a nearly dead battery have on an alt? NO im not talking about the front battery i am talking about the back one. you shouldnt run 1 battery down alot farther than the other unless you plan on throwing it on a charger.
